Unless Lindsay Lohan does it to the camera, who cares.
They seem to love Strahan and think he walks on water or something. Maybe it's just anybody but Kelly, because the guy is not exactly squeaky clean. He's been accused of abuse, and the ex-fiancé (ex-Mrs. Eddie Murphy, so she knows d-bags) is now claiming he's had other women. But so what - Kelly is too skinny and blows kisses!

I've posted a couple of hate posts in Kelly's thread, not because she's skinny or narcissistic but because she sucks at her job (or my interpretation of what her job should be, anyway). For 20 million a year, I expect a literate, well-spoken and intellectually curious host, something I've been denied since Live first plucked her from the ranks of All My Children. She's like the Jimmy Fallon of morning talk shows. I like them both on a personal level, but as raconteurs and interviewers, not so much.

Live! and the Tonight Show aren't exactly Charlie Rose. I think anyone who is seeking all of those qualities from a host from almost any talk show outside of PBS is going to be extremely disappointed.

Kelly replaced Kathie Lee Gifford, who's not exactly literate, well-spoken and intellectually curious herself. Live is a celebrity-driven fluff show with the purpose to entertain, not inform. I don't think anybody is denying anyone anything when it comes to this form of entertainment. It's just kind of there and either people watch it or they don't. The world keeps on turning either way.

I actually did find a higher level of discourse during the Regis and Kathie Lee heyday. Did I mistake Live for Charlie Rose? No, of course not. But in my opinion Regis and Kathie were in tune with local, national and world events and the arts and able to discuss them in a manner I found personally pleasing. I cannot say the same for Kelly, but I also recognize that she's not losing any sleep over the loss of a viewer in my age bracket and with my interests and preferences, nor is Live or its advertisers. But while almost all talk shows and hosts are technically "just kind of there" as entertainers, some of those hosts have managed to mesh entertainment and information from time to time and most of them are gifted conversationalists, so if you're any good at all it can be done and I do appreciate it when it happens.

Come to think of it, a lot of pop culture and entertainment has become dumbed down in one way or another, which is shame. Singers were once expected to be able to sing. Talk show hosts were once expected to be articulate. Journalists were once expected to be unbiased. Ugh. I need to find myself a cane to wave!

His show was like my nightcap before going to bed. I could listen to him to tell a seemingly prosaic story about his mom but was enthralled because the man knew how to spin a yarn. He was the only talk show host I'd tune in to watch regardless of the guest because he knew how to interview people and have an interesting conversation. I still miss my nightly ritual and hearing him say his signature line "Fire up a colortini and watch the pictures as they fly through the air." Okay, I'll stop waving my cane now and being off topic.
