Sofía Margarita Vergara Vergara (Spanish pronunciation: [soˈfi.a βerˈɣaɾa]; born July 10, 1972) is a Colombian-American actress and model.

Vergara was widely known for co-hosting two television shows for Spanish-language television network Univisión in the late 1990s. Her first notable acting job in English was in the film Chasing Papi (2003). Subsequently, she appeared in other films, including Four Brothers (2005) and two Tyler Perry films - Meet the Browns (2008) and Madea Goes to Jail (2009), receiving an ALMA Award nomination for the latter. Vergara's success on television has earned her roles in recent films The Smurfs (2011), New Year's Eve (2011), Happy Feet Two (2011), The Three Stooges (2012), Escape from Planet Earth (2013) and Machete Kills (2013). In 2012 and 2013, she was the top-earning actress on US television.

Vergara stars on the ABC series Modern Family as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, for which she has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2014, she was ranked as the 32nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

The sexy stars got engaged over Christmas while vacationing in Hawaii, two sources tell PEOPLE.

Reps for Vergara and Manganiello have not yet commented, but a source tells PEOPLE that the Magic Mike hunk planned to propose during the trip and was "very nervous" about popping the question.

But on Dec. 25, nearly six months after they started dating, a joyful Vergara was photographed relaxing by the pool wearing a gorgeous diamond ring.

*bumping* for GoldenFleece since there is now some news about her being in a legal battle with her ex-fiancé over their frozen embryos.

Loeb claims that Vergara, 42, who is now engaged to Joe Manganiello, wants to destroy the two female embryos they created – a charge that Vergara has strenuously denied.

In his statement, Loeb, 39 – who wants "to bring his daughters to term" – said that he wasn't seeking to hold Vergara to "any parental or financial responsibilities or obligations" and would "give her the opportunity to be involved with the child in the future, should she change her mind."

Vergara's attorney, Fred Silberberg, said in a statement to PEOPLE on Friday that the actress "has never wanted to destroy her embryos."

The couple signed an agreement in November 2013, when [their] embryos were created, that states that "no unilateral action can be taken with regard to the embryos unless both parties consent."

Furthermore, "Vergara has never suggested that she wished to have the embryos destroyed," the statement continued. "She has always maintained that they be kept frozen, a fact of which Loeb and his counsel have always been aware, despite Loeb's statements to the contrary."

"Vergara, who has happily moved on with her life, is content to leave the embryos frozen indefinitely as she has no desire to have children with her ex, which should be understandable given the circumstances," her attorney concluded.

I'm surprised they went through with IVF when it was so on-and-off between the two of them, but the ticking of the biological clock might have been a factor (I think I've read that it's easier to achieve a pregnancy with frozen embryos compared to frozen eggs).

This turd can't stand that she's moved on with another man. I don't think he cares one bit about the embryos, he just wants to be a thorn in her side, publicly embarass her, and let her know that he will always have something to hold over her. He's a loser.

She's beautiful and talented, but so are hundreds of other actresses. The level of success she's reached is the result of hard work and ambition, and I admire her for that...even when I get annoyed with her shtick and get sick of seeing her everyfreakinwhere.

I remember her when she was only known to Latino audiences and she was nothing a but a side ho for a couple of famous and rich men. She isn't funny and she is annoying as hell imo. Never thought her famewhore ass would make it here. And would not be surprised if she is a regular on the casting couch tbh.

I can't stand her either. I think of her as a modern Charo - working the hair and accent and figure - but with less charm. The billions of commercials she seems to be on, ugh. Her voice sets my teeth on edge. I don't watch her show mainly because of her (I also can't stand Julie Bowen). I like Joe Mangianello, so maybe her taste in men has improved.

In the early '00s, she was the host of "Club La Bomba," a "Club MTV"-style Latin dancing show on a NYC-area cable channel. A family friend's daughter was one of the dancers, and she said SV told the dancers not to ask her for autographs or talk to her. It was quite the inflated sense of self-worth for someone on local cable.

And infinitely less talent. Charo was marketed for dumb shtick, but behind the scenes she is fluent in five languages and plays a phenomenal flamenco guitar. SV is a one-dimensional hack.
