Perhaps Joss Whedon is trying to direct his way out of Disney/Marvel clutches? He did say he would like to direct a DC movie.

He's out. Definitely out. The Russo brothers are the new darlings of Marvel, which I must admit is well-deserved. Winter Soldier was excellent.

More James Spader and Paul Bettany, I really enjoyed Spader's rather snarky tone. And The Vision, I like the fact the character itself is actually far more ambivalent.
It's been a week, and I've forgotten quite a lot already. Eh. I just wish I could find a regular 2D version, I really don't like the 3D.

What I got from the first Avengers movie with Black Widow and the Hulk was a deep FEAR on her part. The camera seemed to stay on her for few more beats when she faced the Hulk. Like this was a danger she couldn't talk or fight her way out of. Can't believe I misinterpreted that fear for lust. Edited to add, I wouldn't mind more personal stuff if it involved a shirtless Cap. The only ones to interpret that as lust were Ruffalo and Whedon. Scarlett didn't see and was confused when she got the script. Even Renner was...I was confused by Hulk and Black Widow and stuff. Babycakes, sorry you hated it. Thanks. It was just so disappointing. I expected better from Joss. I guess I should have included some of the positive aspects: Rhoadie, Falcon, Captain being a boss, Captain and Thor working in tandem, Nick Fury/Shield coming in to save the day, Vision. But then I think about Black Widow calling herself a monster because she was sterilized, then I get all ragey. UGH. So, disappointed.

For someone who calls himself a feminist, that was a shitty analogy to make. I can't believe no one thought that was a horrible correlation to make. But on the positive side, I laughed at Rhodie's joke. I love Don Cheadle.

I'm still shocked that it made it onto paper, and onto screen.

Well, I loved it but not as much as the first.
It was everything that I look for in a summer movie, although I can see where Babycakes is coming from. They did throw in everything but the kitchen sink. It was bloated, I agree, but I still was sucked into the fun and enjoyed ruminating over it afterwards with MrB and 1.0.
I love Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. Love him. I love how his portrayal is a homage to Bill Bixby. I also like Hawkeye. I think it is important to have human members in the Avengers -- if everyone is invincible, it just becomes a movie where everyone is showing off their powers and there is no real vulnerability and suspense. James Spader was top notch. He is one of the few actors who can humanize a CG character with his amazing voice. Top notch. And I really liked that Paul Bettany finally got an opportunity to perform -- and kick ass. How many movies now has be played Jarvis?
I am REALLY excited about Civil War, I think that it is going to be even better than Avengers 2.

As I'm sitting here typing this, the movie is already leaving my brain. I can barely remember scenes I saw an hour ago. This was such a letdown/downgrade. Iron Man II levels of badness. Terrible followup Joss. Too many moving parts, and not enough focus. Now this I won't argue with you about. They've been showing the first Avengers movie on FX this weekend and it's just sort of depressing to see how much potential was squandered. I didn't hate the movie as much as you -- to me there were enough fun parts that I mostly enjoyed myself -- but you know what? As I walked out of the theater, I thought... this movie was step down from the last action blockbuster I saw, which was Furious 7. That honestly might have been the superior movie as far as action sequences, plot, characterization, emotional punch and just straight-up fun. And yes, I realize I am saying that about a Fast & Furious movie. Which is part 7 of a movie franchise, had a new director, and had a lead actor die in the middle of production. Just... Joss really whizzed it on a lot of levels.

I thought she meant because nothing was to get in the way of her killing/spying/fighting, not that being sterilized made her a monster. They should've worked on that to make it clearer.

Damn...Joss deleted his twitter. At first, he was just blocking folks, but now he's up and left the Twitterverse. Damn. Talk about thin-skinned.
