Yeah. What got me was all the old-world material Dr. Pilcher was living around like the draperies and a beautiful chandelier. How would it be possible to obtain and assemble those materials after 2000 years? and even if it was possible, why would anyone bother with surface bullshit like that just yet anyway? What I got from this past episode is that this is a textbook cult. The way Dr. Pilcher chose vulnerable but intelligent people to be his followers and possible psychopaths like his sister and the hypnotherapist to be his fellow leaders, the doomsday scenario, the fear and intimidation tactics, the method of eventually telling Ethan (and others in town like the former sheriff) "the truth" as a means of making them feel superior and authoritative towards their peers and creating a tiered power structure -- it all screams cult. I hope there's something more to the story than what's being told, because what's being told right now is a bunch of bullshit. But you never know with M. Night. He has a special flare for building up a good story and then turning it into a pile of shit.

I thought this was based on a book series and not an M.Night original story. Regardless, I keep watching and I'm mildly intrigued while feeling like it's always thisclose to going totally off the rails. I sort of side-eye how seemingly quickly Matt Dillon got on board with Dr. Cult Leader.
In the end, it's fine summer fare, but not much more for me.

I just caught up on the last three episodes and I was doing laundry while I was watching, so I'm sure I missed a few things - like, did anyone explain to Matt Dillion how they paid for this shit? Or how they'd are refining petroleum to make gasoline for the cars and trucks?
One thing really bugged me - the quarter the teacher gave Ben. It was one of them state quarters, specifically, the Oregon one with Crater Lake on it. I saw that and thought "They are still minting state quarters hundreds of years from now? I thought it was a limited run." Sure enough, a quick trip to the U.S. Mint's website told me that each quarter for each state was minted in the order the state entered the union, and was minted for only 10 weeks and "will never be produced again." The Oregon quarters were minted in 2005, never to be minted again.
So what's the deal with the quarter? Clue? The U.S. Mint ran out of ideas and went ahead and minted the quarters again anyway? Or just a seriously lazy prop team?

After it was revealed that there was a first bunch of people who freaked out and basically destroyed the town, I really wanted to know where they got all the raw and manufactured materials for the rebuild.

What the heck was that? I am so sorry I even bothered watching this thing. It started out so promising, like a new Twin Peaks or something.
At least I got a good laugh when Ben got knocked unconscious.

Yeah, that ending was a major let down. At least it was only 10 episodes. My interest was waning in the last few weeks so I was glad it was ending. Still don't get how a handful of kids could overthrow the rest of the townspeople. Meh.

Perfectly M. Night: decent premise, horribly executed. What a random finale. I DVR'd it and had to make sure it wasn't meant to be two hours.

Night's name attached to it. I had a problem with Pilcher because every time I saw him, I kept thinking "Truman Capote." He played Capote in Infamous (at least I think he did)..

Good lord, that was terrible. Was it written as some sort of "worst script" contest or something? I hate when all these post-apocalypse shows just have to include a teen romance subplot (because 13-year-old girls are the target audience?) but to have a bunch of characters that were introduced in episode 8 "win" at the end? I don't know who they are or what their motivation is. I don't care about their victory at all. And if they think they're going to own this new world, then where are the females?
And speaking of repopulation, if Wayward Pjnes had been matching couples for at least 12 years and pushing the baby-making, where were all the children? I saw one babe in arms during the "running from the abbies" mayhem, surely there would have been more? Ugh, this show.
