It was at a pie shop! (Baked Pie Co in Asheville, NC) The cheesecake was the typical cream cheese, but it was baked in a pie dish, and not a springform. Very buttery graham cracker crust, and the cranberry topping was baked on, not like a post-baking sauce. The cranberry part was thicker than a syrup, thinner than a jam and had whole berries.

Would it have been like a cranberry compote do you think? I must know.

After extensive pie-gawking, this comes close-ish: Brown Eyed baker except it wasn't a crumble top, and it had a crumb crust. The whole berry sauce plus brown sugar and cornstarch is probably very close to what the berry goo was.

Thanks chonies! I am going to give that one a try, it looks fabulous and I needed inspiration for something to go with apple pie for Thanksgiving.
madangela, thanks in advance! That galette sounds like a real keeper.

Things have been better (fingers crossed and not trying to jinx it...but much better) with MrF in the past week, even with/or because of, my vitriolic vents of late in the marriage thread.
How is this pie related? MrF and I watched The Big Sick tonight. I saw it on the teeny screen on the back of the airline seat, and queued it up to watch tonight. It was the perfect Date Night movie, and we were both crying at the end...and MrF does not cry at movies.
We then went in the kitchen and I lined up the 4 Thanksgiving pies. (We did Thanksgiving on Tuesday. So many pies left.) I took a 3/4 empty cool whip tub and cut potions of the 4 pies and dropped them in . Pumpkin, key lime, Apple, and rhubarb. I did the same for hubs, but his was served in a 2/3 empty ice cream container.
“I declare this pie day!” We toasted with spoons and had a truly remarkable evening. Key lime and pumpkin? Ambrosia. (And none of the graham cracker stuff, you bake a lard crust sans filling.)
A good snuggle, a good cry, and pie. That is a great Thanksgiving.

Totally agree. Sounds perfect. Congratulations!
I did stick with the traditional apple, pumpkin and custard varieties for my baking repertoire this year and it didn't disappoint. Stuffed my pie hole with a bit of all three, piled onto the same plate with pistachio ice cream, and I was in my happy place. Dinner itself was great but still was only the opening act for that epic pie finale. My needs are truly simple.
I'm going to attempt the cranberry pie from chonies' link this weekend. I will be in serious pie withdrawal by then.

Pie holiday horror maybe? I didn’t mention I tripped on the post flooded/planks missing/uneven flooring in the kitchen Wednesday and pulled some shit/pain from butt to ankle yesterday. It was the day after Thanksgiving w/guests, but after a pancake breakfast, I figured they are on their own.
Hubs give me some naproxen (with something else) he found in his dobs kit for the pain. I started to get tired, but I’m supposed to make a rhubarb pie and pumpkin pie for my daughter’s Thanksgiving today, so I figured I better get it done before I fell asleep.
I was a little zippy when I was making the rhubarb custard pie, which included eggs.
After I mixed the flour and sugar with the rhubarb I dumped everything into the pie forgetting to add the eggs. I dumped the rhubarb back into the mixing bowl but the piecrust was all a mess. I figured it was the bottom crust so who cared and patched it back together. I read the recipe (which was hard to see) and it looked like it said 3 egg yolks. It took me six eggs to get 3 yolks, but I managed.
You were supposed to mix the eggs, sugar and flour, then add in the rhubarb, but I had already mixed the rhubarb with the flour and sugar, so I dumped the egg yolks in and just started to coat the rhubarb as best I could. Dumped the mess Into the patched bottom crust, dot it with butter, throw on the top crust, pinch it together and stick it in the oven. It looks beautiful!
A few hours later when I went to bed, something was nagging at me about the recipe, and I reread it.
The recipe called for three whole eggs. I really don’t know how my yoke only custard pie will turn out. And at this point I don’t care.
I think one of the reasons I don’t care is I just looked up the secondary ingredient on the “Mexican naproxen” my husband gave me, and it’s non-generic name is Soma.
I think this explains both why I was falling asleep, the recipe was swimming in front of my eyes, it just made perfect sense to keep soldiering on even in the face of certain defeat, and why I really don’t give a shit this morning.
Happy egg yolk custard rhubarb pie everybody!

Awww famvir, I hope you are feeling better but I do want to thank you for the enormous laugh your post gave me! That was the best comedy routine I've heard in a while.
I hope your pie turned out OK in the end. Please update us. Meanwhile, enjoy your Mexican Soma siesta!
