Interesting. I guess the book announcement was set to coincide with the new Amazon docu-series on the Duggars and IBLP called Shiny, Happy People which is being released this Friday. Apparently Jill was interviewed in it. I'm looking forward to watching it. link |

It looked to me like Michelle was maybe wearing a black knee-length skirt over her leggings, but of course I could be wrong.

Amazon Prime has a really disturbing documentary on the Duggars and their church called “Shiny Happy People.”
The doc is good, the subject matter is disturbing. The only Duggar they interview is Jill (and her husband) and one of their cousins who apparently appeared on the show a lot. They also interviewed others who belonged to their church.
I never watched their show, because there is zero about these people that I found compelling, and I’m glad I didn’t because it turns out it was largely propaganda for their church. And the level of grooming for abuse is really, really upsetting. These same people currently out there screaming about gay and trans people being groomers have been grooming their own children for decades.
And there’s just too much with this crowd lately that makes me want to crawl out of my skin. The doc noted that the Duggars’ church has a rule that men can’t change diapers - especially on baby girls - because they may become aroused. Like, who is sexualizing infants like this? Then right after watching this I ran across a video that talked about an interview conducted on the Girls Defined YouTube channel (which is a couple of evangelicals telling women how to live their lives) where they interviewed a couple that gives sex advice to Christians. The wife talked about how horrible sex was for her for the first few years of her marriage, and how she told her friend she didn’t have a clitoris because she didn’t find sex pleasurable. Her fiend, who worked in the medical field, told her she absolutely did, and offered to go into the bathroom with her to show her. Now, I think that is fine between two adult friends. But the wife was too modest and turned down her friend’s offer. She did learn about that particular part of her anatomy when another friend showed her on her infant daughter during a diaper change. Like, can you please just Google some anatomy drawings and leave the infants out of this?! Who are these people?

Kostgard, my time on the internet has proved to me that yes, no matter how weird and gross things are, someone will be sure to make them weirder and grosser. For the love of web-footed friends in the forest, these people need anatomy text books and a heavy dose of common sense! Also actual therapy.
And in my own area, a man who was arrested last summer for defacing several libraries in the area which had hosted Drag Queen Story Hour has since been arrested again for multiple counts of CSAM* possession. He spray painted GROOMER on the buildings, among other acts.
*Child sexual abuse materials. Since children cannot consent to either their abuse or to having images of their abuse recorded and distributed, referring to it as child pornography minimizes the crimes committed.

Oof, they all need therapy and to get their minds/attitudes straightened out about sex/sexuality. In the doc, they showed how in school the kids were taught about “eye traps” women could create for men by what they wear and get them all aroused. There were worksheets the kids did showing women in different outfits and the kids had to circle the “eye traps”. As one person put it, “I wasn’t taught math, I was taught to slut-shame.” I went to college with a gal with an Evangelical upbringing, and she saw sexual innuendo in absolutely everything. I never understood her deal on that, but now I think I do. She’d been taught since she was a young child about the millions of ways to sexualize herself (by telling her not to do those things) and she was taught that men are hormone monsters and you always have to be on the alert so you don’t accidentally turn one on with your bare shoulder, ‘cause then he simply couldn’t be held responsible for his actions after that. And that’s all grooming. Wrap it up in “men are in charge and you always do what they say” and kids are groomed to never question, and when something does happen, it was their fault. That was the most disturbing part of the doc. But the most interesting/scary was the church’s political ambitions, because you can see some of their goals coming to fruition now. |

God, how little do they think *of men* that they can turn into uncontrollable lust monsters at the sight of even a donut hole!
