I do wonder about the chain of events that led to the release of the police report, especially since the Duggars are consulting lawyers about it. According to this, it looks like it might have been illegal, however, if the police interview instigated by Harpo Productions happened in 2006? 2007?, then Josh was not a minor during the course of the interview, which means that it wasn't really a juvenile delinquency investigation, right?

On a slightly different note, Michelle's hair hit a new high (low?) in the rat's nest department. Kind of emphasized her craziness. She was a bit wild-eyed, too.

I didn't watch, but I just read the Daily Beast recap. Here's the thing: is there some justified anger over a police report being released that shouldn't have been? Sure, I could agree with that. HOWEVER, that it was released doesn't negate *what was in it.* It's still horrific and terrible and the Duggars tried, and are still trying, to push that under the rug as no big deal.

I feel sorry for the girls and I even have some sympathy for Josh, because I think that closed-off upbringing certainly could have contributed to what happened. But it did happen and they can't pray that away. I can't believe TLC is dragging their feet on cancelling the show.

I don't know if I really consider Josh a pervert. He was a teenage boy with raging hormones. If he wwere growing up in a normal household he would have obtained a dog-eared copy of Playboy from a friend and locked himself in the bathroom with it. Not that I'm excusing what he did. Not at all. It's just that the repressive Duggar lifestyle led him to it. JimBob and Nutsy are at fault too.

The Duggars aren't the only family where teenage boys don't have accessibility to Playboy or whatever and those boys don't go around molesting little girls. Jim Bob and Michelle deserve some of the blame, but I really do think there is something specifically wrong with Josh mentally based on his compulsion to repeat the behavior even after being caught and punished.

I believe part of Josh's problem is he's been raised as the heir apparent. And apparently to him all the females he saw, except for his mom, belonged to him and their consensus was not relevant.

I don't know if I can chalk his behavior to horny teenager in repressed household. If that's all it was he would've gotten caught making out with an age appropriate partner or self gratification. His targeting of kids as young as five while they are sleeping and vulnerable is a signal that something is seriously wrong. But I agree that all of these kids have gotten such weird messages about sex their entire lives that it probably does affect them.

To me his behaviour is definitely predatory and I've worked with sex offenders. As the older sibling he was in a position of trust, he had access to the victims and the fact that he was victimizing them while sleeping is alarming. He clearly had a compulsion given that he repeatedly molested the girls. The fact that his parents did shit all to stop him or protect his sisters likely led him to believe the consequences if he got caught again were worth the risk. If he was a curious, horny teenager then he could have found a girl of a similar age to experiment with. Fondling your younger siblings while sleeping is a whole other ballgame.
