It's amazing to me how these kids can live with being taught that sex is nasty and then be so anxious to hit the sheets. The side-hugging krap along with no hand-holding and heaven forbid, kissing is so intense as to make a kid terrified of the act. are they really so anxious to make a baby that they can just shake all that off? Remember, Jessa and Ben were supposedly doing it when they were supposedly kissing after the wedding.

And didn't one of the original commenters (Alice?) from 2006/2007 say that Josh had also been caught looking at internet porn? So it would seem that he did have at least some access to "normal" sexual outlets.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but with all the apologists coming out of the woodwork, it feels that for these people (fundies/Quiverfull) who regard all sexual activity outside of marriage as being sinful and deviant, child molestation is just one more sin on the spectrum, along with porn, masturbation, homosexuality, and fornication between two consenting adults. It's like they legitimately don't get WHY there's such outrage over Josh's behaviour and their cover-up, especially because it's coming from us godless heathens. Like, the whole ordeal was very sad for them and required God's forgiveness, but more because it involved impure thoughts, not because of the victimisation of other people. I don't know, I just find the whole thing very disturbing. Especially with all the support they're getting online.

If he had made overtures towards the sisters who were his age, I might have been more apt to believe that it was a result of some weird repression stemming from growing up in a household with such warped sexual ideas. But the fact that one victim was five-years-old ... to even view a kindergartener in a sexual way points to some extreme depravity that cannot be "prayed away." And it makes me wonder if he was abused himself.

If a 15 yo male (non family) babysitter, a freshman/sophomore (that they admit to) in high school, repeatedly fondled five of his charges, as young as 5 and 7, would they think it was just childhood experimentation? Should they think is was okay because he wasn't 16, so not a crime?

When I was 4 or 5 my older brother would do stuff when my parents weren't around, but he was 7 and 8. And I knew what he was doing was wrong, and I did feel he was a predator. So I do not believe any of this (he was a child himself, the girls weren't hurt/didn't know/nothing happening here, move along).

They knew, he knew, the parents knew, and their "safeguards at night" was probably a lock on the door to keep big brother out. So he just felt them up on the couch instead.

Exactly. He wasn't going for the siblings or non-relatives who had actually achieved puberty and boobs. He went for the five year old. And he did have at least some of the normal outlets - at least according to "Alice" (who posted this stuff on a message board years ago - ETA and as GinFizz pointed out) who said that Josh apologized to the church at one point for looking at p0rn online. So some how he made it around the net nanny or whatever other barriers his parents put in place as it seems most determined kids can. I think this is an entirely different kettle of fish than a curious, horny teenager.

The Duggar eagerness to hit the sheets as soon as they are allowed doesn't surprise me. I my experience, for a lot of conservative Christians repression=obsession. I guarantee that they think about sex all. The. Time. I've seen so many people like that. I briefly had a roommate in college like that who saw sexual innuendo in absolutely everything. Even in things that seemed completely innocent to my heathen eyes. She must have constantly had sex on the brain. Another friend of mine went to the bachelorette party of a similar Christian girl who was waiting until marriage, got drunk at her party and started wailing about how badly she wanted the D.
