Also, Lena Dunham has never set herself up as some kind of morality icon.

Well, it's not just the pebble story. She was also masturbating next to her sister in bed as a teenager. So there's that. But she did suffer consequences in that she had to cancel scheduled interviews and her book tour. I think she is also getting sued/settling out of court for describing her college-era rapist using details of a real person from campus who apparently was not her rapist. So yeah, her book was a clusterfuck.
I don't see how reporting the truth about a crime that was committed is spitting on soldiers' graves and dishonoring free speech, but Palin is probably just mad that people are paying more attention to the Duggars when her daughter has a wedding scandal. So she's hoping to get more ink by hitching her trailer to the Duggar crashing star. There are pics out there of her posing with Josh, so I guess she's not going the Huckabee route of scrubbing that connection out of existence (as much as you can on the internet).

In the meantime, precious right-wing darling Josh was a teenager well old enough to know exactly what he was doing when he COMMITTED A CRIME against his family members and other young girls. His parents and his community actively brushed his crime under the rug and allowed the victims to remain in an unsafe environment all for the sake of their 'wholesome' image. That the public is now reacting with outrage isn't some left-wing conspiracy. It's a cry for justice. Yeah, I had no idea it was a radical leftist position to be against the molestation, and cover-up of molestation, of little children. I guess you can just call me Karl Marx then.

Yeah. If anything, how this crime is being dealt with publicly, criminally, and through the media is showing exactly what people stand for. Homo- and transphobic misogynists are okay with pedophilia, molestation, and coverups. And they somehow STILL manage to make it about them being the victims. Actions have consequences, guys. It's not a political conspiracy. You did heinous shit, and now people are upset.

There's an undercurrent of a persecution complex within the evangelical community. For some people within that community, life is boring when there's nobody out there nailing you to a cross.

If the girls were locked away from Josh at night, did Ma & Pa not think that Josh would turn to the boys? I wouldn't be surprised if he did do something to the boys. But Ma & Pa would NEVER let that secret come to light. In their minds, that would mean that Josh could possibly be a ...Homosexual.Stupid people.Pedos don't care what sex the child is.

Interesting about Huckabee's scrubbing of his website. I don't think this qualifies as an official flip-flop, it just means his campaign doesn't want to deal with the backlash anymore.
I'm struggling with whether to watch the Kelly interview with Jill & Jessa. If they genuinely feel like they weren't traumatized by what Josh did to them, fine. On the other hand, believing his actions were completely normal for an adolescent boy is just gross and wrong. It's sending such a terrible message to other families.

That's a LOT of lip gloss.
I just don't buy that the girls were asleep. They're spouting the party line. (No surprise there.) They're about to burst into song "Everything Is Awesome!"

There's an undercurrent of a persecution complex within the evangelical community. For some people within that community, life is boring when there's nobody out there nailing you to a cross. There was an evangelical zealot who lived in our apartment building. He gave 30 days notice to vacate and the owners rented out his apartment. Days before he was supposed to move, he barricaded himself into the apartment, yelling about religious persecution and being hung in a cross like Jesus. It took weeks to get him out, screaming and thrashing and yelling about Jesus and persecution the whole time. I really felt sorry for the nice graduate college student who had rented the apartment. She showed up with her UHaul filled with all her stuff, and ended up sleeping on the floor of other people's units until they were finally able to pry the guy out.

This interview is even more disturbing than Jim Bob and Michelle's.
Jessa, the fact that Josh was "sly" about molesting his victims does not make it less of a crime, but it's a sign he both knew what he was doing was wrong and he was just starting out. The fact that he escalated to touching younger victims under their clothes while they were awake in public areas of the home shows the safeguards did nothing to teach him how wrong he was, nor how to control himself.
And Jill, the fact that your family had to install bedroom locks and treat all your brothers as potential molesters is also very wrong. Consentual experimentation is normal in your teens; molestation is not. The fact you plan to use those kinds of safeguards in your own home shows how you don't understand what happened and how not normal it is.
