I wonder if what we see with { {Spoiler}the First Order building what is effectively Death Star 3.0 is a sign of how hard it is to overcome institutional inertia, and I am not just talking about the writers...
That, or a sign of how the empire/first order leadership is so bound to the Dark Side that they can't get their minds around the idea of people putting their lives in danger to stop them. ] Also wonder if we will see { {Spoiler}a flashback of Kylo Ren's betrayal, and the circumstances of Luke deciding to leave. Was he exiling himself? He is Darth Vader's son, maybe he was afraid of being a hazard. } I am also wondering if the title "The Force Awakens"{ {Spoiler}is a sign that there is a massive cosmic change beyond the issues of the conflict between The First Order and the New Republic/Resistance is about to happen. Rey might be Luke's daughter (and it would be awesome for us to see a hero with a daughter) but maybe the stress and fear of being interrogated by Kylo was something that made her get the ability to use the Force, and the Force is jumpstarting people for something. Remember it was being in the middle of battle that made Luke have the breakthrough that helped him sink the killing shot on the Death Star }

Spoiler {Spoiler}I think Rey is a Skywalker, but related to who? Luke or Annikan? Also, every time I see Adam Driver I think, "Hipster douchebag; he looked better with the helmet on. But he doesn't get James Earl Jones' voice, does he?

I think Rey {Spoiler}is Luke's daughter. Jedis aren't supposed to have children, but maybe he figured the rules weren't necessary anymore after ROTJ. Maybe Luke felt a "disturbance" in the force and abandoned her in order to keep her safe?
My husband thought maybe she was Kylo Ren's twin sister, but it doesn't make sense that Han & Leia wouldn't know about her.

Spoiler Spoiler I think Rey is a Skywalker, but related to who? Luke or Annikan? Also, every time I see Adam Driver I think, "Hipster douchebag; he looked better with the helmet on. But he doesn't get James Earl Jones' voice, does he? Spoiler Spoiler If she's a Skywalker, she's related to both. My guess is she's Luke's daughter, making her Vader/Anakin's granddaughter, Leia's niece, and Kylo/Ben's cousin. Girl is a dead ringer for Keira Knightly/Natalie Portman and that can't be unintentional. I loved it. I was so skeptical of the initial positive reviews because I remember that Phantom Menace was generally well received at first. Sitting in the theater after a midnight showing of that one with an audience that wasn't sure how to react. That was more of a "I need to see it again so I can try convincing myself that it didn't suck" while after The Force Awakens I turned to my boyfriend and we were both like "It was good!!! Lets see it again because it was so good!". I was really worried that it would rely too heavily on Harrison Ford and the other original characters and the new ones wouldn't be compelling enough to care about (huge fault of the prequels). But all the new additions kicked ass, especially Daisy Ridley as Rey. My god was she a badass. And not in a forced or affected way. Her character felt very organic and I know there have been some fanboy complaints about Spoiler Spoiler her managing to whoop Kylo's ass at the end but I totally bought it. We saw early on that she could hold her own in a fight and was not a novice when it came to hand to hand combat. Kylo was wounded and overly emotional by that point. I really liked that they had her trying to use the lightsaber like she would have used a staff. I don't mind the rehashed plot from ANH cause the prequels were so terrible it's kinda like ANH half needed to be remade to wipe the stench off. The Force Awakens is everything those movies should've been.

Some more thoughts/questions Han/Chewie- Spoiler When I saw Han, I thought "Oh, he's playing Ben Kenobi this time". So when he and Chewie took the explosives, I knew he would die. The entire scene was so tense for me. It was a nice callback to SW when Ben said "Who's more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows". My questions: Spoiler 1. I truly believe producers want us to think Rey is a Skywalker. One commenter on EW wondered if she could be related to Supreme General Snope. Another on MTV wondered if she could be a Kenobi. I think old Ben was way too old to have fathered a kid, but like Anakin, she could have been divinely sired. Maybe she's Perceval in this story (to Anakin's Arthur, and Luke's Lancelot?) Or he had a family in between Revenge of the Sith and New Hope and his child is Rey's mother/father? The possibilities are endless.
2. How did Maz Kanta (Lupita) find Luke's lightsaber? Does this mean Lando could come back next go around?
3. What is Leia's relationship with Ben/Kylo? Did she ever have issues with the force? How does she feel about her son killing her husband? Her embrace with Rey was kind of awkward. I need to know more!
4. Why doesn't R2 power up sooner? Does Luke have power over him? Was he just sitting in a corner somewhere on the ship? R2's story needed to be fleshed out a bit more for me!
5. How did Poe and Finn not see each other when the planet they crashed on is relatively flat? There were no footprints, no other crash.... it was a plot hole for me.
6. My thoughts on Adam not withstanding, he looks NOTHING like Han or Leia. It took me out of the story.
7. How will General Hux and Kylo resolve their partnership? General Hux is fully committed, while Kylo has his doubts. However, he has the force on his side. They do not seem to like each other. How will this play out?
8. Does the Force Awakens refer to Rey specifically? If so, why did she awaken now?
9. Who is Snoke? How did he get his power? Was Luke aware? Did Jar-Jar pick him during the clone wars (so he was a politician) or was he a Sith? Why is he like the Wizard of Oz? Does he have a body?
10. Do Poe and Kylo have a relationship? Or did he become the best pilot in the galaxy come on the scene after junior turned to the dark side?
11. How does the First Order not know how to protect their prized planet yet? This is the 3rd time it's been blown up by a small fighter ship. Kind of lame.
12. Why can't Jedi knights pick better students? Ben picked Anakin and he killed all the Jedi students, and now Luke picks Ben/Kylo and he kills all the Jedi students.
13. Finally.... why did Luke create a map? Also, I think JJ is out from here on out, but thanks to Disney, we get new movie projects every year until 2020! Oscar is 5'6" or 5'7", so yeah, kind of short. He does look good in a pilot's suit. Looking forward to your answers! Regarding your question #13: Spoiler someone proposed since Luke mentioned going away to some ancient Jedi temple, that is why there would be a map the in The First Order's archives, and BB-8 had a piece of it so that he couldn't be found.

Just got back from seeing this movie. I was so excited. Hearing that music in the theater brought me back to seeing Star Wars as a kid and our audience cheered when Han Solo and Chewy showed up.
This was such a love letter to the original trilogy. I couldn't be happier with the movie and I was dreading it because I haven't liked anything JJ Abrahms has done besides MI-4 and the pilot of Alias. I think he is needlessly depressing in his movies.Glad he didn't bring that with him to this series. The movie was remarkably funny in parts.
I thought all the new actors did a good job except for the bad guy. And I have to say that I love that the three leads on the good side were a woman, a Latino and a black actor. Nice to see some diversity in leading roles for a change.

I can't wait until everyone sees this so we can discuss the plot, because OMG. And I found Adam Driver to be weirdly hot. He plays the bad guy right? That just shows how mileage varies, because he was so unattractive that it took me out of the movie for awhile. His bad acting didn't help.

Not really liking Adam Driver for his role. {Spoiler (click)}One of my kids laughed and laughed when he took off his mask. "He's all emo, going to write some bad poetry about this!" after he couldn't control Rey.
Thoughts on Rey {Spoiler (click)}I definitely think she is a Skywalker. Obviously she was left on the planet, crying after her family and waiting for them to return. The voice that said something to her sounded like the guy Poe got the map from. I'm assuming he was on the same planet with Rey like Obi-Wan was on Tatooine with Luke. She's also a tinkering wizard like Anakin was.

I don't know what I am doing wrong. Some of the spoilers I can see and others I can't. I know I am missing interesting things.

I've seen a lot of criticism of Kylo Ren {Spoiler}for being a pathetic loser of a villian. I get people wanted a vader (and a vader of Episode 4, not 1-3 or even 5). But I think Kylo Ren is what Anakin was supposed to be, if WTF George Lucas was doing hadn't turned him into a whiny, moping idiot. Kylo Ren is a loser - he's obviously incredibly shitty at being a Sith. He does things wrong. He can't torture effectively. He loses his temper and has violent tantrums. The stormtroopers are scared of him because he's violent and unpredictable. They fear him but they don't respect him. He's defeated by both Poe and Rey. Rey is a tiny litle girl who uses her lightsaber like a staff and he's too mad to control himself and think remotely tactically about how much bigger, stronger, and more evil he is than her. What I loved about his performance was how he radiated desperation and malevolent insecurity. He's incredibly dangerous but he's also sad and if only he hadn't stabbed Han, I could forgive him. I really hope we get an adequate back story as to what turned him evil. It's really a shame JJ Abrams had to spend energy and development erasing/reinventing the prequels. They were so, so bad.
