I know there have been some complaints about the lack of epic light saber duels but I was fine with that. The characters that were wielding light sabers either had never used one before or had never really had to fight someone with one before. I'm sure they will make up for that in the upcoming films. I totally agree. Kylo Ren hasn't finished his training yet, and the other two had never even picked one up before they had to start fighting with it. The weirdest part of this for me is that normally, I find Adam Driver to be incredibly homely. But in this he was borderline cute. I don't know if it was the hair or what but wowza. And when {Spoiler}Han was leaving the resistance base I knew he was a goner. And I fully admit that I screamed when Kylo Ren stabbed him with the lightsaber. It's going to take me a while to come to grips with that one. Overall I loved it, and I'm seeing it again today. I missed the character Simon Pegg played and a few of the other cameos, i.e. Daniel Craig, so I'm hoping I'll be able to catch more of it. Particularly {Spoiler}Rey's force vision, apparently the voices of Ewan McGregor, Alec Guinness, and Frank Oz were used in addition to Mark Hamill. So Yoda and Obi-Wan are technically in the movie too. That is so cool. I am going to look for that when we go back. Spoilers are easier than they used to be -- from the Forum Guidelines: "Spoiler tags are reserved for feature films in their first cinematic run. We do not use spoiler tags for TV shows, books, etc. The spoiler tag is the last "smilie" to the right of the typing area nav bar with a finger in front of the lips." I read in a review that Adam Driver is a very physical actor so I think that might have to do something with him being so appealing. Although I agree with Neurochick that Oscar Isaac is awfully cute.

Honestly, I'm going to give Adam Driver credit. He does most of his onscreen time with a mask on, and he's incredibly compelling/physical, even then. When he walks on screen the first time, you want to know more about the character. The few times he takes the mask off, you can almost feel him taking a part of himself off, he plays that this is a BIG DEAL really well, without it being overplayed. Oscar Isaac is another very compelling guy. He's not very tall (I think he's like my height, 5'7 or 5'8), he's not conventionally handsome, but every time he was on screen I was like "I want more of him!" The woman next to me had seen the movie already and she was {Spoiler}SOBBING when Han got stabbed. I kind of had guessed what was going to happen (and was hoping I was wrong) when Han started walking out to see his son. I actually yelled out "NO!" and everyone in the theater who hadn't seen it, gasped one guy was like "shit!".

I was looking for Simon, but didn't see him. Apparently, Daniel is the Stormtrooper in THAT awesome scene with Rey. (Even though he's a curmudgeon, I love him all the more if this factoid is true).

And then started the waterworks. I was so glad not to be spoiled. A friend of mine who is a huge Star Wars fan is a bookstore manager and had tickets for an early Saturday morning matinee because it is the holidays and that was the first time he could take off. He stayed off the internet, refused to talk to anyone and made it until an hour before the store's closing time Friday night when some jackhole who had just left a showing walked in and announced THE SPOILER. I don't know how he did not beat the guy senseless. He was so sad.

I don't think Oscar Issac is very tall either, I saw him this past summer in HBO's "Show me a Hero" and he was wonderful in that part, which was difficult because he was playing a real person and someone who wasn't always that likable but HE made me like that person.

Bought tickets the noon XD showing on Boxing Day. There is brand new Cinemark five minutes from my house, and this will be my first time there. I was a huuuuuuuuuuuge Stars Wars fan as a youngster--saw ANH, TESB and ROTJ all in original release. The Empire Strikes Back is my all time favorite. Had a cassette (Google it, kids) that had the dialogue and sound effects from TESB and I must have worn it all out--I could recite the whole movie practically in my sleep at one pint in my life. Also saw the 1997 re-releases in the theater. Like everyone else, thought the prequels were utter shit.
Very excited at it has taken ALL MY WILLPOWER not to click on the spoilers.

MMS & I just got home from watching this movie, and it was everything I hoped it would be [\sigh]. It was so lovely to see a strong, female character who was able to kick butt.
MMS loved it, too, and he had such a big grin on his face when the Millennium Falcon came on screen. It was a great moment.
I didn't go in spoiled, but it was pretty easy for me to guess where the plot was going and what the big moments would be. If you are at all familiar with archetypal patterns, particularly the hero and the quest, you may not be as surprised as you'd wish.

I think Disney made a bit of mistake by releasing so many trailers plus Making Star Wars sight had a fairly accurate synopsis of the movie on the site several months ago. I think the next movie we may get less material released.

Saw it this afternoon, and holy cow. It was everything that the prequels were supposed to be, great adventure, lots of passion and touches of humor, not as stiff and too-serious as they were. Also saw it in Real 3D and it was amazing. The choice to go with practical effects gave a great sense of realism and lived-in feeling to the film. Love Finn, Poe, and Rey. Definately the epic power trio that fit Han, Luke, and Leia without being copies of them. {{{ {Spoiler}The scene of Finn and Poe breaking out in the stolen Tie-Fighter was hilarious, exciting, and great moment to get a sense of the two guys. }}} Loved the introduction of {{{ {Spoiler}The Millenium Falcon. It was Rey and Finn's Plan B, and I actually cheered and clapped when I saw her. }}} Even after seeing the "Chewie we're home" scene in the trailer, it was great to see it in the movie. {{{ {Spoiler}When I saw Han and Chewie loading up the explosives in the StarKiller, I did have the sense that the 2 of them were going to sacrifice themselves. But when Han went out on that bridge, I had my hands covering my mouth, and I wasn't the only one shouting in dismay when he died. }}} Also think that at this point it is obvious{{{ {Spoiler} that Rey has to be Luke's daughter. Remember that the lightsaber that Rey and Finn found and used is the one that Luke lost when he got his ass beat in Cloud City. I want to hear the story about how that was found, even if it was Maz Kanata getting beaned by a falling lightsaber while doing maintenance work in that floating city. }}} }} Oh, and add me to the Oscar Isaac Estrogen Brigade please!

We saw it today and absolutely loved it! Rey was amazing and I echo everything that's been said about Kylo Ren /Adam Driver. He's a great villain and a pretty charismatic actor. It really feels like the torch has been passed properly to these new characters and story. Can't wait for the next one!!
