When can we start discussing plot? I looked through the forum guidelines but did not see a definitive answer. I definitely do not want to spoil it for anyone. Based on my understanding of the rules we should put major plot points in spoiler tags at this time. Ok, I'll start with the spoilerly stuff! I definitely agree Kylo Ren was modeled after Anakin. The character is obsessed with Vadar after all (don't think that needs to be spoiler tagged since TPTB have publicly stated that). The kicker with Kylo is {Spoiler}he's Han and Leia's son and therefore Vadar's grandson. But, unlike Anakin, I'm actually interested in learning more about Kylo. We know a little bit about his background but I'm interested in learning more and I imagine we will in the upcoming films. The big questions for me is {Spoiler}how did Kylo come to see Vadar as anything but a cautionary tale? How did Snoke get into his head and convince him to turn against his own family? Why is most of Kylo's anger aimed at Han? He never once mentioned Leia. One thing I thought was well done was giving the new characters things in common with the trio but not to the point you felt "Oh so and so is the new Luke/Han/Leia!" For example, Rey definitely has a lot in common with A New Hope's Luke but I never once felt "Oh she's supposed to fill Luke's void". Sure she's a dreamer like young Luke was but she's also a lot tougher Luke started out as. She can handle herself and is a lot tougher than Luke was in A New Hope. Poe (AND YES MORE POE PLEASE!) and Finn both share qualities with Han but neither feels like they are supposed to be the new Han. Oh and Rey {Spoiler}Mechanically inclined? A natural pilot? Strong with the force? She's totally a Skywalker! As soon as {Spoiler}Han approached Kylo I knew Han was a dead man. Actually I knew before the movie began. Harrison Ford was way too happy promoting this movie. I know there have been some complaints about the lack of epic light saber duels but I was fine with that. The characters that were wielding light sabers either had never used one before or had never really had to fight someone with one before. I'm sure they will make up for that in the upcoming films. Finally, the ending was beautifully done. {Spoiler}Mark Hamill may have only been on a screen for a few seconds but damn if it wasn't powerful seeing him again! All I can say is: {spoiler} F*ck Adam Driver!!!!! I cried like a baby, even though I knew Han was a dead man. Sobs I've been wanting to say that for 24 hours!

What I really wanted to see was: {Spoiler}more of Leia's reaction. I mean, her son just killed her husband. And she was the parent who thought that he still had some good left in him! But I agree that I want more Kylo Ren backstory. And ITA on the ending scene. Perfection. And I know that people: {Spoiler}bag on Mark Hamill's acting all of the time but he really did convey so many things with just one look. I thought that he and Daisy Ridley both did a brilliant job with that scene.

I think {Spoiler}the reason why Kylo Ren is such a temper tantrum thrower is because he ISN'T Vader, as much as he wants to be. Once Vader went evil, he went there big time. Kylo's conscience pops up at inconvenient times, he still overrides it (and kills Han Solo, that little pissant) but part of him is broken over it. That's why he prays to Darth before, why he throws tantrums, and why he struggles to kill Han before it "clicks". It's even why he offers to train Rey. The last scene was perfect. I was satisfied completely because until then there was, literally, a missing piece, but it still left me excited for the next installment. Which is a year and a half away, what JJ, you took some scenery from The Lord of the Rings. And actors. You couldn't have taken the timing of the movie releases?

I am just glad that JJ abandoned the old three year between movie model and we only have to wait half of that time.

JJ's not coming back for episode 8. Wouldn't the release dates come from Disney???
Also, I think because Peter Jackson had a book to work with, he knew where the story was going, and could film everything back-to-back. Disney was anxious to get the first SW out, so they moved at lightening speed w/ the script. Someone's got to write the sequels... but I assume when that happens, everyone's contract stipulates that SW 8&9 come first, so filming will not be an issue.

I saw it yesterday (son and BF are super-fans, I went along for the fun) and my son and I are still talking about it constantly. I've never been in a full-to-busting theatre before, and I've never been in a movie before where the crowd cheers and claps and gasps so loudly - it was quite an experience. I've seen the original movies when I was a kid, and I know the mythology, but I am definitely not a fan girl (though I am a Carrie Fisher fan girl). Having said that, this movie may have changed that. It hit all the right nostalgia notes and was an incredible stand-alone movie, but it also made me want to go back and re-watch everything, then go see this again. I LOVED it! Does anyone else think the actress who plays Rey is a dead-ringer for Keira Knightly? The teeth - the smile - they could be sisters! I loved all the new cast and seeing the old cast again gave me all the feels. Oh, and speaking of audience participation, the scene where Leia appears for the first time, a little girl in the back of the theatre said (very loudly) "Oh, she looks SO OLD" and the entire theatre lost it laughing. I felt bad, but it was funny as hell. You know that little girl has been constantly watching the movies from 40 years ago and expecting Leia to look the same.

How much involvement is he reportedly having from here on out?

I can't wait until everyone sees this so we can discuss the plot, because OMG. And I found Adam Driver to be weirdly hot. I just saw it. I never liked Adam Driver because I detest his character in Girls. I ADORE Oscar Issac. He was great in this and I'm glad I saw him in "Some Kind of Hero" on HBO a few months ago. I fucking LOVED this movie and I want to see it again and again and again and I have NOT felt this way since the original three movies came out, all of which I've seen multiple times. I am okay with JJ now, this makes up for that shitty movie "Cloverfield" that he produced. What JJ did that I love, was the same thing he did with Star Trek; he respected both the older and younger fans, he connected those two groups. The very last shot of this film, illustrates that connection. Please, somebody tell me how to do spoiler tags. I need to talk about this movie!

I am so glad I am not the only person who doesn't know how to do spoiler tags. I have been bursting. So many things to discuss. I will be seeing it again next week. I can't wait until I have the dvd in my hands!

I know there have been some complaints about the lack of epic light saber duels but I was fine with that. The characters that were wielding light sabers either had never used one before or had never really had to fight someone with one before. I'm sure they will make up for that in the upcoming films. I totally agree. Kylo Ren hasn't finished his training yet, and the other two had never even picked one up before they had to start fighting with it. The weirdest part of this for me is that normally, I find Adam Driver to be incredibly homely. But in this he was borderline cute. I don't know if it was the hair or what but wowza. And when {Spoiler}Han was leaving the resistance base I knew he was a goner. And I fully admit that I screamed when Kylo Ren stabbed him with the lightsaber. It's going to take me a while to come to grips with that one. Overall I loved it, and I'm seeing it again today. I missed the character Simon Pegg played and a few of the other cameos, i.e. Daniel Craig, so I'm hoping I'll be able to catch more of it. Particularly {Spoiler}Rey's force vision, apparently the voices of Ewan McGregor, Alec Guinness, and Frank Oz were used in addition to Mark Hamill. So Yoda and Obi-Wan are technically in the movie too.
