I hope Captain Marvel is good. I do fear that she's miscast though -- in the trailers I think she looks and sounds too girlish. Marvel's pulled off other unexpected casting choices though, so my mind remains open.

I've only ever seen her in her small part in Scott Pilgrim. I heard that she was amazing in some indies and in her Oscar winning role in Room. But the Captain Marvel trailers leave me cold. Her expressions and face acting is completely dead. Her quips with Fury are snarky and feel very 90s Buffy/CW show-esque, but everything just feels dated overall. I know that it's supposed to be based in the 90s and is a "period piece", but it still feels dated if that makes any sense. Captain America was based in the 40s, but it didn't feel dated. I'm hoping for the best, but my expectation have been severely diminished.  |

She just seems devoid of any personality in those trailers. Looking forward to Jude Law.

She looks so bored in those trailers. I am not familiar with the character; is Captain Marvel supposed to look like she is half asleep all the time?

It's very hard to watch, and it took me months to work up the courage to watch it on pay TV. It's a mystery to me why the kid didn't get an Oscar nomination, though, he was fantastic. |

It's a Marvel film that has been heavily promoted as a direct bridge to Avengers: Endgame, the highly anticipated follow up to Avengers: Infinity War (which ended in a cliffhanger that has audiences clamoring for a denouement and closure). It has also been widely speculated that Captain Marvel will be instrumental in the Avengers' eventual victory against Thanos. I think the views have more to do with fans hoping to catch a glimpse of any Avengers-related tidbit than any genuine interest in the character. |
