Louis Székely[1] (born September 12, 1967),[1][2] known professionally as Louis C.K., is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, and editor.[3] Although born in Washington, D.C., C.K. grew up in Mexico City from age one after his family moved there and spoke Spanish as his first language until he moved back to the U.S and learned English. He began his career writing for several comedy shows in the 1990s and early 2000s for comedians including David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Chris Rock. Also in this period, he was directing surreal short films and went on to direct two features—Tomorrow Night (1998) and Pootie Tang (2001)—before he starred in the short-lived HBO television sitcom Lucky Louie in 2006.

I thought there was already a thread about him, but I couldn't find it using the search function. I thought now might be a good time to create one just in case this story does go somewhere, Roseanne Barr Calls Out Louis C.K.

I tend to believe where there's smoke there's fire since I've been hearing these rumors for years just as with Bill Cosby, but I also don't want to go after C.K. with pitchforks yet especially since so far it's all hearsay.

Here's how he recently addressed these rumors, and I thought it was very odd. Maybe he figured that people would believe what they want to believe anyways, but I would think if I were in his shoes, and I was innocent that I would give more of a denial.

“Well, you can’t touch stuff like that. There’s one more thing I want to say about this, and it’s important: If you need your public profile to be all positive, you’re sick in the head. I do the work I do, and what happens next I can’t look after. So my thing is that I try to speak to the work whenever I can. Just to the work and not to my life.”

Like with Cosby, I believe that if Louis C.K. were really that adamant at defending himself (if the rumors weren't true), he would sue for libel/slander.

On the one hand, I understand why none of the women he allegedly messed with want to come forward. Like Roseanne said, female comedians feel like tolerating that kind of behavior is par for the course, and they've vocalized their accusations to their community and probably just want to get on with their careers.

And on the other hand, I find it hard to condemn him based only on rumors, even if those rumors are being amplified by a woman with a pathological need for attention and conflict.

I'm reading that statement as a 'yeah, I did it.' If you hadn't done that you would just...say you hadn't done that. Disappointing but not surprising, as others have said these rumors have been around for a long time.

Yeah, the lack of a flat-out denial and that word salad about "the work" gives me pause. I like some of his stuff but somehow I'd never heard these rumors until recently. I think that if it weren't true and someone were being accused of such things, you'd definitely want to be on record as saying no, it's not true, I would never.

The first time I read about the speculation was here. Recently, I think in the Bill Cosby thread. It was interesting because if you looked at the way the conversation developed, you could kind of see why it took so long for the Bill Cosby allegations to gain traction.
