His movie is now not going to be released at all. Good. Both Charlie Day and Chloe Moretz had already said they would not do publicity for it. It played at TIFF and there are reviews out there that made it sound confounding even before this all came out. The Cut published an article after the Weinstein allegations came out on why men force women to watch them masturbate which was something I kind of wondered myself. Anyways it comes down to two things. They get off on the fear and humiliation of the victim. And if he is not physically touching her he can tell himself he is not actually a rapist or assaulter. Although in Louis' case it does sound that he shoved at least one woman.

I was waiting for a story to come out on him since the rumors have been around for a while now. And from what I remember, he never actually flat-out denied the allegations/rumors when they first gained some traction. And then to make a movie with the particular subject matter this one has, and then to give it such a creepy title? Ew. I was a fan years ago, but he lost me with the episode of Louie mentioned here. It didn't sit right with me and I stopped watching the show. Then, a year or two later is when first heard the rumors about him, that are now no longer just rumors. Fuck off forever, jackass.

I was wondering that too. I'm a fan of Better Things, but there's no way she couldn't have known.
I, too, am very creeped out by his actions, even if he asked (and it sounds like his answer didn't matter). I'm also getting creeper fatigue. I think men and women live in very different universes sometimes.

Doesn't excuse what he did, but he appears to be owning it. NOW he's owning it, but he had flat-out denied these allegations before.

I thought him and Pamela Adlon were a couple?
So... maybe unpopular- but hear me out... I don't get some of the reaction. Here's what I mean: I DO get the anger/outrage, etc at his actions (and disgust... just ... sigh- it is disgusting). What I don't get is this: all of a sudden all of his stuff is being pulled. I do understand his current projects, but I read that HBO is deleting access to his entire catalogue. Ok, but... Woody Allen, Polanski, Mel Gibson, Casey Affleck, even Spacey. Are we now going to delete entire catalogues as if they never existed? And for who? I guess I don't get the selective outrage.
Are they going to delete every Weinstein/Miramax film ever made?
Le sigh... yes, the rumours were rampant for a long time- I was hoping they were false... but alas.
ETA- his statement is "good"- in that it takes responsibility and is contrite. But... I just can't get past the surrealness of it. Really Louis??? You had to LEARN that it wasn't ok the masturbate in front of women at will/random whilst you trapped them in a closet/room? Like, is that the level we are at now? Where we have to teach the most obvious basic things to people or else they will just be pulling out their penises and rubbing them on us- because- well, how were they to know that wasn't ok??!! WTF.

I don't think he and Pam are a couple. They began working together a long time ago when he was still married. I thought they were good friends and collaboration partners.
I agree, DF, I don't think deleting his work from HBO is the answer. That seems weirdly Puritanical and an odd precedent from the channel that used to feature Andrew Dice Clay specials. I mean, are they never going to show John Hughes' movies anymore. That seems wrong-headed. What's with the urge to completely erase the past? That doesn't seem to be the answer here. I think a better idea would be opening a door for those who have been shut out previously.

Interesting question about whether they are trying to erase his past versus Weinstein/Allen/Polanski, etc. Louis may be unique among them in that he wrote and performed and co-produced and directed a lot of his own stuff. I don't think any of his stand-up specials don't have at least one bit on masturbation. That is why I stopped watching his stand-up - after I first heard about the initial allegations (maybe five years ago?). His non-masturbation stuff was mostly funny to me but the masturbation stuff was always pretty icky. Maybe HBO and Netflix feel like it is rubbing salt in the wounds of the accusers if work he created during this time continues to be streamed/available. And the new film's subject matter is kind of inappropriate in this current environment also, so...I can't imagine it won't eventually be released in some form. And his material will probably still be available somewhere.
Weinstein is more of a business guy. Woody Allen - still inexplicable to me that people still like him or his stuff but he's got decades of power/prestige in the industry, even more than Weinstein.

I think companies like HBO and the like are pulling his work because everything is really raw right now and they don't want to hear from people who yell at them for having his work, as mentioned above, don't want to appear to be rubbing salt in the wounds of the victims and they don't want the association right now. I'm sure down the line his stuff will start slowing popping back up. Memories fade and the anger will die down.
And true about Louis's standup - now so much of it feels like a confession.
