It looks as if the message boards on IMDB are shutting down on 2/20/17. IMDBSo another traditional message board goes down. I guess TPTB want us all to use Facebook. |

I will miss the movie boards. I go there often to clarify plot points I'm not sure about. It's a good place to go for that.

I hope not. I use my IMDB app every day to look up an actor or trivia. Same here. Wikipedia is nice and all, but they never have the entire cast and crew credits. IMDB is the only site I know of that has comprehensive information like that. And I think they'll survive just fine without the boards. I've been using IMDB for over 20 years now (back before message boards were really a thing) and I don't think they had them back then. |

I'm in the habit of going to IMDB after watching certain movies that are confusing, and I always take a look at IMDB after watching documentaries cause there are often links to articles and interviews that present the pieces of the story the filmmakers might have left out to fit their particular narrative. So I'm going to miss the boards as well. It was an easy go-to for movie questions. Thread titles usually expose the trolls, which makes them easy enough to avoid. I wonder what the motive behind this was for IMDB. I know things can get ugly, but so what, welcome to the internet. If you don't like what's being said, you're free to move on. I'm curious about the legalities of message boards. How far is too far? Is a message board administrator or blog owner legally responsible if someone is stalked or harassed or catfished or whatever? Is that what was going on? |
