Ooh, I just binge-watched this and I'm hooked now. Reese is perfect in her role... does anyone else just keep seeing her as a grown-up Tracy Flick? For me, Shailene is the only one whose casting seems off. Then again I just don't like her in general, so maybe I'm biased. I can't wait to find out who got murdered.

Tonight I realized I remember the prissy, unlikable teacher from when she played a prissy, unlikable rape victim on Law and Order SVU. The poor actress is typecast.

Episode four felt a little wheel-spin-y, but some decent character reveals, I guess.
I've got from suspecting that Perry is the one who dies to actively wishing for it. Celeste shows the slightest bit of independence by doing a little work and he's back to strangling her and suggesting they have another kid so she has to stay home and not work. Celeste is so much smarter than this (she's brilliant at her job and immediately saw through Maddy's half confession), she has to know this will head for trouble and she knows she has a way out. Obviously this is complex, but she has an exit and needs to run far away from Perry.
While I didn't see it last week, Creeper Ed was on full display this week. What is going on there? Is it just because he's bored and horny (Maddy admitted they don't have sex much - probably because she was busy donking theater dork), or something darker at work?
Maddy's ex is a total douchebag. But I warmed to Bonnie a bit this week - probably because I could identify with the way she was totally over all the bullshit.
That teacher is the worst effing teacher in the world. First she lets the "who hurt Amabella?" drama play out in front of everyone, then she brings Jane in to be all "I think Ziggy is bullying. I have zero proof, it's just a feeling I have." Amabella told the teacher she and Ziggy were friends. Teacher never asked if someone else was bullying her, never checked in with Ziggy. She absolutely sucks. But the kid who plays Ziggy is adorable.

I really loved Adam Scott's character in Parks and Rec so I feel a little guilty that Maddie is cheating on him. Cross-program contamination.

I think all the guys on this show are creeps. Some have just revealed themselves earlier than others. "I like the way sweat looks on women." WTF? Why would you say that to your stepkid's stepmom?! And the Elvis thing was embarrassing. Maddie had zero interest.
I am convinced Perry was Jane's rapist. I feel so bad for Celeste because she is trapped and he has beaten her down physically and emotionally. I hate the whole vibe of "maybe she likes it."
Who is the class bully? My guess is one of Celeste's children, acting out on the stress of their home life.
Reese Witherspoon is knocking it out of the park with this show acting-wise.

For anyone who's read the book: is there more backstory to how Madeline and Ed wound up together? It seems that he rescued her from single motherhood but she was never really in love with him or that attracted to him. He's too much of a nerd for her. But, yeah, Ed's sweat comment to Bonnie was straight-up creepy. (And what fitness instructor just takes a break in the middle of class to go chat with a visitor?)
Even though we see less of her, I think Laura Dern has been on fire acting-wise, as well.

The Maddie/Ed storyline in the show is not what it was in the book, I'll say that much. Don't understand the changes they've made.

Even though we see less of her, I think Laura Dern has been on fire acting-wise, as well. I'm curious about the Maddy/Ed relationship too. She does seem to largely resent her ex for making her a single mom, the "single mom" thing seems to be a big reason why she latched onto Jane. Did she just marry him to get herself out of single motherhood? Why was she so horrified at her single mom status? It isn't like she couldn't have handled it if she wanted to - driven little Maddy could be a single mom and have a huge career like Renata if she put her mind to it. Why didn't she do that? What did she do with herself in between Nathan and Ed? Do we know how long the gap was between Nathan leaving and her finding Ed? I'm guessing there's about a decade age gap between Abigail and Chloe. But this is all why I can't figure out Ed. Is he a perv creeping all over town who may be dangerous? Or is he a guy who works from home, doesn't have much else going on and has a ton of time on his hands and a wife who isn't attracted to him and barely sleeps with him, so he's kinda starved in this regard? ETA: I saw someone else speculate that Abigail knows about Maddy's fling with drama dork, and it could help explain the tension in the relationship and why she wanted to get out of the house for a while (and why she doesn't blame her dad for his actions - maybe she sees Maddy's hypocrisy of complaining about how terrible her ex is while she cheats on her husband worse than what Nathan did). Honestly, I would prefer that. This show already has a monster in Perry. And a D-bag in Nathan. I'd prefer that Ed is just kind of a pathetic nerd rather than a creeper and someone who may have been inappropriate with this stepdaughter.

Little Ziggy is going to be starring in a Big Bang Theory spinoff called Young Sheldon.

I can't get over how beautiful Nicole looks in this. Surely she can see? Red hair is way better than blond, Nicole!
Madeline's husband's beard is gross, he looks awful. Hipster wannabe lumberjacks are so 2015, and they were unattractive then too. Celeste's husband is gross in his entirety. I don't know why she stays, but I guess it's a love-hate thing?
