I think we are at about 70% but there has also been various levels of cloud cover and rain so far. There is a total eclipse passing over Texas in seven years. That will be a lot easier for us view, so I'm far more excited for that one. It is also on a Monday, and I'm thinking the kids are just going to have to have a vacation day that day. Yup. It was back-to-school for them today and this district was nice enough to obtain glasses for all the kiddos. Having NASA as part of our district didn't hurt. Me? I have my cereal box all ready. I did not know about the total eclipse over TX in 7 years Sounds like we are in the same area - I live in "the big city" north of you.

It was literally pouring rain during the eclipse here in my part of the world, so my girls and I watched coverage via The Weather Channel. It did get quite dark, like twilight during the strongest part, but other than that, nothing really cool happened due to crap atmospheric conditions.

Well, my sk1 decided "not to participate" in watching the eclipse outside, so it turns out I was worried for nothing. I'm a little disappointed in his school, they didn't do much to manage the kids expectations or explain what they would see. It turns out a lot of kids were bored and just went inside to the library.
Ironically, sk2 loved it! We got glasses from a neighbor who had extras, ate lunch outside and looked up every once in a while to watch how the sun got "smaller and smaller and smaller!" She was great following instructions and it was really enjoyable!
I should have kept sk1 home to watch with us, I learned my lesson for 2024, if the teachers aren't doing it right, then I will.

In Texas and worried about how bad Hurricane Harvey is going to get - they think it'll be a category 3 hurricane when it makes landfall. Predicting 12-24 inches of rain with possibilities of some places getting 30 inches. I'm in Dallas so shouldn't be too bad here, but have relatives near San Antonio and worried about what will happen there and further south. It got stronger quick. I'd be evacuating if I lived near the Coast. Hope everyone gets through it OK.

I've got several friends in Houston and Corpus who are getting ready for the storm. I think there will be quite a lot of flooding.

I'm in Houston, and have everything crossed for no flooding & no power outage.

If the power goes out, I'm streaming Game of Thrones on my phone, overage charges be damned.

I live in Austin but am currently in New Orleans on vacation. We are supposed to fly home tomorrow around noon, and I have no idea if we will actually be able to do so.
