We barely got a dusting of snow and it's already gone. It's a little chilly, but I don't think the cherry blossoms and daffodils will die. I think it'll cause more of an igloo effect and protect them. At least that's what a farmer/horticulturalist friend said it would do. I'm betting he's right.
While I'm happy the cherry blossoms and daffodils will be fine, it sucks in terms of bugs and weeds. The backyard is now covered in weeds and it's going to take some effort to get rid of them. Was thinking of doing a small vegetable garden this year, but housemate and I decided against it. We're just gonna tackle the weed problem and maybe do container gardening on the deck.

South By Southwest (SXSW) officially began yesterday here in Austin, thus guaranteeing either wet, chilly weather or unseasonably warm temperatures. And there was that one year when downtown flooded...
The gods have decided on wet chill this year, apparently, although divaspawn1 reported that running around the convention zone yesterday in her polyester Handmaid's Tale costume and workboots was sweaty work. (She had SO much fun and reported that the crew in charge took excellent care of her and her fellow handmaids.) Three more days of that.
Meanwhile, ds2 met up with friends at our neighborhood mall for the opening of Kong: Skull Island (he loved it), and I saw tons of obvious out-of-towners stocking up on jackets and rain gear for their SXSW adventures.
When I got home with ds2, we stood in the front yard for a while, taking in the view of a fuzzy but bright almost-full moon, with an enormous and bright ring around it, filling half the sky. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Okay, so I could possibly have missed the point of this in post earlier It had rained (non-stop it seemed) between mid-December and the end of February, so Southern California actually did experience "weather" for a change. But that seems to have ended, so... uh, back to the beach!

While Fitz is badmouthing the Irish weather over in the Current Events thread (😉), my bestest weather moments were in southern Ireland.
On my second trip to Ireland, I took my studio partner to Dublin for a week to take his mind off his fresh divorce. He had rented a car we wouldn't need, and, as we had arrived early morning and couldn't get into our hotel for a few hours, we drove to Waterford to tour the crystal factory. That way, we could turn in the car when we got back to Dublin.
But it was too early in the year for Sunday tours, and all we could do was hit the gift shop. So he bought a paperweight for his mom, and we headed out to Dublin.
As we stepped out the door, a confluence of weather swirled around us. Where we were standing, it was about 48F, but a light snow flurry flitted around us. To our left was a dark foreboding sky, with a rainbow, and to our right was a bright spring sky of blue with fluffy clouds. We were very confused, and just stood there experiencing it for about 15 minutes.
It was awesome.
Carry on!

Ditto! I will gladly trade a few rounds of shoveling for a day at work. Woot woot!

For once my job announced we were closed for a snow storm the day before, instead of the day of or halfway through the work day (don't even get me started.) So I actually get to enjoy a snow day from beginning to end. And I don't have to shovel nor do I have any chores that need doing so I can just sit around drinking hot cocoa and watching TV all day. I am so psyched!

We had snow showers this morning, but it melted away by lunch, so I won't complain.
I will voice some concern however, over the freeze warning for tomorrow morning because I drive on a highway by a lake where there are no guard rails. If you slide off the road, you're going right into the lake, no question. There have been times when it was really windy and it shifted my car a bit and there was a moment of panic. I know a few people who drive this stretch of the road and they've shared similar concerns. Even on a dry, sunshine-y day, I still worry about that part of the road because there's no shoulder. There's just a few feet of a 45 degree angle between the road and the lake.
