Divaspawn1 is awaiting her first major nor'easter as she settles into her new place in Brooklyn with one of her friends from her childhood/teen acting days in Austin. Bless her heart--she's game for almost anything, but we're taking bets on how soon she decides to come home after the spring thaw...

Stay safe and warm snow inflicted Greecies peeps!
Sending warm vibes from an unseasonably warm and dry January times here! Pretty much average 10/12 Celsius daytime temps at the moment!

Management decided to close tomorrow so I don’t have to work! And as a carless apartment dweller, I fortunately don’t have to deal with snow removal. So I just get to have a pajama day and drink hot chocolate and watch TV. My thoughts are with those of you who have to shovel. Sending good vibes your way!

I think my dog had it the worst because of this storm. It was 16 degrees, blizzard was raging, and he did not want to go outside and plunge into a snowbank three times his height in order to do his peepees. He's already extremely stubborn in his belief that the living room carpet is the best place for him to do it under the best of circumstances.
Otherwise, because of the way the snow drifted away from my garage, I think I did less shoveling after this storm than I did after the previous storm which was only 6 or 9 inches.

We dug out yesterday... it was light and fluffy- there were places that were definitely higher than our "official total" because of drifts.
Roads were shit yesterday morning tho

Snowstorm expected in the midwest. Schools are already canceling and it hasn't even snowed yet. I remember once time when my kid's school was canceled for a predicted storm and then we got maybe an inch. So I'm curious to see if the meteorologists will be correct this time.

Pray for the southern half of Texas, y'all--we do not do snow/ice well and we are facing several days of icy roads and broken tree branches...

So far this hasn't been as bad as last year's Snomageddon in Texas. We've been fortunate to not lose power. The kids and I have had two snow days, and Mr. L is working from home. We won't be going anywhere until Saturday afternoon at the earliest, and maybe not even then.

Well. Last evening was quite exciting. A line of thunderstorms moved through at dinnertime with high winds, heavy rain, hail, and tornado warnings (the sirens in my county went off twice, but I don't think any tornadoes actually appeared). My neighborhood was pretty much unscathed, although I'd lay money some of the nearby streets were flooded for a short time, because the storm drains on those streets just aren't up to their designated task. We just unplugged the electronics and hunkered down. There was spectacular damage elsewhere, though. Local news story with pictures. Those poor people in Coon Rapids (just north of Minneapolis) whose house was cut in half by a tree! Expecting more heavy weather tonight. Oh joy. Springtime in the midwest.

Double-posting, but it's a week later and a new storm.
About 3:45 pm yesterday, a large thunderstorm passed over the campus where I work. Big thunderstorm - scary-loud thunderclap, then hail started. Most of the hail was smallish (pea-sized) but I saw a bunch out my window that were as big as acorns. At one point, the hail was falling nearly sideways because of the wind. Fortunately, the storm only lasted for about 10-15 minutes.
From my office's Google chat: Co-worker 1: The National Weather Service Warning noted the possibility of 'Half dollar size hail' and maybe I'm too young or too used to digital money but that's not a super helpful size metric for me. Co-worker 2: It's a bit larger than a shilling. Co-worker 3: Quite a bit less than a groat then.
