Nearly there for the official result. So far every constituency has been a yes. My mind is blown that it has been this emphatic.
The statement by Savita's father really made me cry.

IT'S OFFICIAL IT'S REAL. YES!!! Crowd chanting Savita! I'm in floods here. Relief. Yes 66.4% I'm gobsmacked and emotional. Hearing the crowd shout Savita's name made me lose it. Want to see the results for each constituency now. ETA - Donegal was the only no, and that was only just over 51%. No one can claim this wasn't an emphatic vote for abortion rights for women.

Congratulations fitz, syve and jenm! A two to one blowout! Most importantly, there will be no more stories like Savita's in Ireland.

I'm so proud of Ireland and her people today. I feel the same way I did when the equal marriage referendum passed, that the country is finally throwing off the chains of Catholic Church abuse and oppression. I can't stop crying whenever I read a reference to Savita.

I hope someone collects all those notes and sends them to Savita’s family. Her death was such a needless tragedy.

So do I. Nothing will ever console or comfort her family, she should be here, we should never have known her name. This country failed her(we should never be allowed to forget that)along with so many, too many, far too many.
This is still slowly sinking in, my dominant feeling is relief now legislation can happen and sooner rather than later as tmrw there will still be women at an airport heading off for the most hardest lonliest journey and this isn't going to change until our (jubilant) govt stay on track and legislate now. My heart is still with women in crisis pregnancy now knowing the country is beside you but that doesnt make anything easier for you right now.
So get legislating sooner than later Leo.
Oh and now we look North and hope against all odds that NI politicians realise their citizens just want someone to do governing things and in the process see fit to grant equal rights for the women and LGBT citizens of NI.

Does there even have to be a law introduced? In January 1988 Canada's Supreme Court struck down the restrictive law we had regarding abortion, and the government of the day just never replaced it. It reverted back to simply being a medical procedure that was accessed the same way as any other medical procedure; by a decision between a pregnant woman and a doctor who was licensed to provide it. And just to say: the way Irish women felt yesterday? I was young, but that's exactly how we felt 30 years ago, as if FINALLY women had control over our bodies, and the way we lived our lives.

We voted YES ...Heres what happens now.I had a big ramble of a post but the above ithink explains it better. As for nothing happening and just revert back to a medical procedure there was never anything such available regards abortion. Abortion was always iilegal. In other news some Bishop told Yes voters that they are sinners and need to go to confession... Well there was 1,429,981 of us and I think they are low on manpower! Also hypocrites. Why is it they get themselves in a knot about unborn babies but never cared one bit for living children in their so called "care" Edit On a less serious but very Irish note.. After Eight chocolates handed out after resultAs an aside there is suggestion(not here I know not nessicary to say) we are celebrating abortion we are not, the celebration or as I see it the outpour of relief, is for the hard work over many, many ,many years to give Irelands women the human right of choice and be safe and taken care of in hervown country should ever need to make such a difficult choice.
