Brand's become a darling of the MAGAsphere in recent years due to his anti-vax/Covid-denialist stance, which has bled into other conspiracy rabbit holes as well. So naturally the current allegations are being presented by him and his fandom as political persecution and orchestrated revenge for his truth-telling.

Not surprised. I've never really liked him but I did appreciate how his openness about his addictions, how he appeared to take recovery seriously and his books/TV stuff had encouraged some who were hesitant to get help before but I had not been paying any attention whatsoever to him the last few years so I had no idea he'd fallen down those particular holes.

In a similar vein there are people that don't even seem to like of Masterson personally who are claiming that he was set up by Scientology using cult blackmail tactics because he stepped out of line with them some how, despite not disavowing them as far as I can see and far bigger celebrities causing big headaches for them. And the fact that it is well documented that celebrities can do basically whatever they want in the cult. I mean no doubt they collect blackmail on them as well, not least via auditing but I had a conversation with a colleague the other day which basically amounted to "Scientology got him women who told him it was consensual and then got them to falsely testify that it was drugged rape." Despite the fact that they aren't members any more, from what I've read. And even in that sentence Scientology "getting him" women is at the very, very least extremely skeevy. I don't think she supports DM so much as she's really into conspiracy.

Scientology finding the right type non famous members to have sex with celebrities is plausible given Nazanin Boniadi's claims but there are so many other horrifying parts to this story that have nothing to do with COS. And then there are the people that still claim you can't be raped if you're in a relationship/have had sex before with the guy. Which is actually *lowering* the bar from the previous "you can't be raped in a marriage" (which finally ended in the US 20 years ago). WTF?
