That decision is when I turned my back on love forever. Love is bulls*it.
*cries*
Lemme go back on topic: I don't get Tiny Tim so I can officially say I'm old.

I thought he was horrible as Laurie. As other have said, too child like as an adult.
Christian, on the other hand was perfection. And as a book reader, I always shipped Amy with Laurie. Florence and Christian together would have been perfect. And this Fredrich was better. I can get why Jo wanted him. Then again, it's Louis Garrel's fine ass.

Why is this pasty faced perma-child getting so many plum roles? Which is the demographic he appeals to? I can’t imagine even when I WAS in my teens I would have gone for him, so surely it’s not about me/us being too old to get his appeal? When I look back on the heart throbs of my use they were Matt Dillon types who was manly even when not yet a man and properly HANDSOME and charismatic. TC looks like the extent of his roles should be guest starring roles as basement dwelling school-shooters and instead he’s getting a dream career. It feels wrong. Dune right now has an incredible cast… with the stark exception of the main character and it’s frustrating af. There are surely some much more justified struggling actors in his age group?

If you figure it out, please explain it to me, because I have no clue.

I disagree; I think he's got a lot of charm that comes through on screen.

I agree, scarlet. I also think he fits perfectly into the 'non-threateningly sexless with good hair + bone structure' mold which has long-standing appeal and fits in perfectly with the tween idols of my own childhood and people a little younger than I am (Orlando Bloom, NSync era Justin Timberlake, 3/5 of One Direction, etc). I don't really think of his appeal as unprecedented in any way.

Cosign. My 23 year old niece was here yesterday and I had the same conversation with her. I don't get it. She said she loves him. Then I showed her the Dementor's kiss photo (the one where he's getting his pasty soul sucked out of his body on a boat) and she laughed. She said she also thought Oscar Isaak was dreamy, and I get that one! Totally! But I will never ever ever get Chalamet. ETA: All the rumors that he messed around at NYU with multitudes of women and was a total skeezoid.... spreading chlamydia... ewwwww For reference: dlisted.com/2020/06/16/the-rumor-that-timothee-chalamet-spread-chlamydia-around-nyu-is-flaring-up-again-on-twitter/

He's not inconsistent at all as a teen/early 20s idol. In their youths, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zac Efron, every boy band member ever, they were boyish, as were earlier idols like David Cassidy. And from what I've seen on Tiktok Gen Z doesn't seem to be into the big musclebound look, skinny is in for guys. K-pop singers are very popular and they've got the skinny, almost androgynous thing going on. It's just a generational thing.
Also, can we please not refer to pale skin as "pasty"? I thought colorism was bad?

I get it as well. My daughter and her friends LOVED him as Laurie and loved him in general. He's non threatening and has a great jawline. As an adult? No. But for tween/teens sure. I just saw Dune yesterday and thought he was fine. My daughter made me watch The King with her at the height of her Chalamet love and I thought he was fine in that as well. Overall, a decent actor, great hair, great facial structure, and slight enough to play a teen probably well into his thirties, I'd say that's a recipe for Hollywood success.

I thought he was great in Dune. I can't say I'm familiar with anything else he's done honestly. Not that I haven't seen him, but he just hasn't made that much of an impression on me either way.
