Dammit Ginger now I want to watch that movie (which is not even available at my library!) I am an unabashed Merchant/Ivory fan Me too! I actually just watched Howard's End again a couple of days ago and A Room With a View is on the agenda. And I really liked A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries, for the record. But those movies do now feel to me like relics of the 80s and 90s, and I felt when I was watching Call Me By Your Name that it was a lesser version of something from the past, repackaged as if it was something new. Yeah I did not really like it very much either (especially as it was hyped up a lot). I particularly found Armie Harmer wooden and difficult to watch (it was distracting enough to take me out of the movie) Timothee was fine, but I can certainly see what you're saying about it really just being a lesser version of a Merchant Ivory piece.

We had Leonard DiCaprio, then Orlando Bloom and now we have Timothee Chalamet. There's definitely a significant portion of the population that goes for this Caravaggio-model type and every generation has its representative.

Timothée strikes me as a male Gen Z Kate Moss. Dune was the first thing I'd seen him in and I think he's better at long soulful stares than actual dialog. But he does have presence.
