She’s also apologized in one tweet to Valerie Jarrett but is liking and retweeting some truly racist tweets about her at the same time. Nope.

Roseanne is back on Twitter, blaming Ambien for the tweet. Uh, no. Just like booze didn’t make Mel Gibson a misogynist and an anti-Semite, Ambien didn’t make you a racist. They just remove the filter (and in Roseanne’s case, she must pop an Ambien nearly every time she logs into Twitter. This was not an isolated, out of character tweet). I'm waiting for the social media coordinator at Ambien HQ to respond with something snarky about this, since they're trending right now. I've already read some truly hilarious tweets about what people have done while hopped up on Ambien.

Back during the original run of the show, Roseanne was so difficult that the producers threatened to fire her and continue the show without her, similar to how Valerie Harper was fired from Valerie. The episode where Roseanne is gone the whole time visiting her parents while Jackie and Dan are at home bonding was a warning shot. It didn't work because Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman stuck by Roseanne and said they wouldn't continue without her.
I'm dying to hear the full back story on what went down this time. Did ABC tell Roseanne that if she ever stepped out of line that the show would be cancelled and they were just following through? Was the tweet just the final straw and the real reason was that Roseanne was demanding too much money for another season? Has Roseanne been up to her old tricks and driving everybody on the set nuts? It kind of sounds like too many people were quitting for ABC to even attempt to keep the show going.

I wonder if it would be possible to reboot the show without Roseanne? Kill off her character. I mean there are a lot of stories to tell and I like the rest of the cast. I hope they’re at least considering this, because everyone else on the show is awesome. It’s been established that she has an addiction to opiates so they could have her OD offscreen and the family would be dealing with the aftermath. The only thing I don't like about killing her off is that the family would be sad (at least for an episode). If she's got an opiate problem, maybe they shipped her off to rehab and she's never seen again- but the family isn't too sad about it because the drugs were making her "say and do crazy things". Then they just carry on. I couldn't bring myself to watch past the first two episodes (aired on the same night) because of Roseanne herself. But I felt bad because everyone else in the cast are lovely people who I enjoy (except Becky. God bless her, but that girl is not a very good actress). I just couldn't justify giving Roseanne Barr anymore attention and ratings and energy to fuel her hate agenda. I'm glad ABC pulled the plug on her- but disappointed that it affects other people. Sara Gilbert's tweets have made me feel her frustration, because she said she thought they had a good story to tell and now they won't get to tell it. That's why if it were possible- I'd say carry on without Roseanne and call the show "The Connors" or "Dan Moves On" or something. The only issue I can see is that the characters may have been originally created by Roseanne and so they wouldn't be able to use them without giving her more money than would be worth it. But if it could happen- I could watch a show with everyone but her and not feel icky about it.

I'd bet someone at ABC saw the tweet, contacted her "people" with a warning, and that's the reason for the initial, quite sincere-sounding, apology to Jarrett. Then the top ABC brass saw it and decided fuck that, she's outta here. It explains why she's still on twitter sounding like a racist conspiracy freak. Also, yesterday was the first time I've taken a look at her twitter for more than a minute, and it's quite obvious that she's seriously mentally ill. And likely off her medication.

Damn. I, too, remember really enjoying the first Roseanne show. I knew she went off the rails, but I still don't entirely understand how or why.
They should take Darlene and make a show around her character.
I think we all need to make a vow that no matter how society turns out as we age (short of animal abuse), we need to be open-minded about it.

It's a comedian vs. a big pharma company -- and I'm on the drug company's side. What a friggin' world.

No doubt. It probably goes without saying that I’m delighted by the cancellation, nonetheless, I’m DELIGHTED. It demonstrates that either, both or some combination of the following are true: A. Disney has a moral conscience B. Disney thinks they’ll take a bigger economic hit supporting a trumpy racist than not Whichever, it bodes well for the future.

I really don't feel sorry for the previous cast members who signed on for this, especially the ones who have steady careers outside the show. They know Roseanne, they know what problems she caused and how she treated people on the first show. And it's no secret that she has been tweeting nasty, racist stuff since at least 2013. This was an opportunity for all of them to make big money by offering the public a Trump friendly sitcom (which is exactly how it was marketed and advertised, and according to all advance promotion, something Roseanne explicitly wanted). They have all gone down in my estimation.
