With the success of Will and Grace and The X Files comes ANOTHER re-boot, this time of the 90's classic, and one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, Roseanne. The original series was on for 9 seasons, from 1989 to 1997, and was a massive and cultural hit. The Emmys and Golden Globes never warmed to it, since it earned just one GG nomination for Comedy Series, and ZERO times for the Emmys. (In it's defense, it was up against some other super heavyweights of TV comedy.) It certainly was at the forefront of LGBT issues, showing the first lesbian kiss on TV (Roseanne and Mariel Hemingway) and the first gay wedding, years before we could get married in the USA. It also dealt realistically with depression, money issues, abuse, and dieting. 20 years later, though, and Roseanne herself seems to be an major advocate for the, shall we say, more conservative side than her character was. Which Roseanne will show up in the reboot? We shall see. I think almost everyone is returning to the show, except for Johnny Galecki, but he'll probably do a cameo in between wheelbarrelling buckets of money from The Big Bang Theory. It starts Monday, March 27th on ABC. Memories? Thoughts? Wariness?

I love Roseanne, but her recent love of all things Cheeto makes me kind of not want to watch. But I will dvr the first episode and see what the reaction is after it airs.
One of my favorite episodes is when they find the pot. My sister and I always quote it! "Birds! Birds! Birds!" "Is this the sink? Am I shrinking?" "DJ. DJ. DJ."
Edited for spelling

My impression is that while she’s going to be supporting conservative viewpoints, other characters won’t be. When Laurie Metcalf was on Colbert a while back they showed a set photo of Jackie wearing one of those pink pussy hats. So it’s looking like at least Jackie will be butting heads with Roseanne on some issues.

It's just me and my ganja." I'm concerned about potential pro-Trump bullshit, too, but am hopeful. It could be super awesome and hilarious. Plus, they could actually do a good job of talking through some hard shit, who knows.

I was talking with a friend about the review. We sort of came to the same conclusion that the original Connors would have probably been Trump supporters—definitely his demographic. Misguided supporters who may later understand they were duped, but definitely part of the disenfranchised masses.

Roseanne is one of my all time favorite shows. Honestly, I think it would ring really false if Roseanne and Dan were super liberal, it just doesn’t jive with their characters. They’re white working class and live in the Midwest.
Roseanne had some radical storylines on the show- gay wedding, gay kiss, etc. I think that’s more because Roseanne (the person, not the character) likes being radical and less that she was liberal. Whatever you think of Trump’s policies, people liked him because he was willing to blow the entire political system up. That’s totally in line with Roseanne the person, so I don’t think it’s surprising she likes him. I’ve read that the show will deal a lot with the different beliefs in the family. (You know there’s no way Darlene is conservative.)

I think it's cool that they wrote another character for Sarah Chalke, I'm not sure how much she'll be on it though. She had a non-Becky cameo once after Lecy Goranson came back for one season during the original run and it was so funny.

Roseanne is one of my all-time favorite comedies. Unlike most TV series, it remained top notch quality for a solid 6-7 seasons (before diving off a cliff into complete unwatchability).
However, the show was always best when Roseanne herself did not have unfettered creative control. Without Chuck Lorre and Tom Arnold, I'm skeptical as to whether I will want to watch more than 1 episode. (As much as everyone dislikes Tom Arnold, the show was at its best when he had his hands in it.)
I do agree it's realistic that the Connors would be Trump supporters, but I read that Roseanne is planning to include a lot of "Hillary jokes". Just no. Hillary is history. If Roseanne thinks that Hillary is relevant to what's going on in the US now, then I don't want to suffer through that.
