I started bingeing The Vampire Diaries over the weekend following a Covid vaccination that made me feel crappy. I realize I'm fifteen years late to the party but OMG this show is amazing. It's awful, but awful in such a good way. I wish I had watched it when it was airing, I would have been pretty much their exact target demographic in 2009 -- slightly emo Millenial who likes dark fantasy and will look the other way on terrible acting and storylines that don't make sense in exchange for hot guys who cry a lot. Have you finished bingeing it yet? We have a thread here for it, if you want to read how into it we all were to the first couple years anyway.

I'm late to respond but...I'm working my way through it! I'm about halfway through season three. It is still terrible, and still features a lot of hot guys who cry a lot. Which means I'm still very much enjoying it. I was also referred to this two (!!!) hour video from Jenny Nicholson that is a super deep dive into the series. While there were some spoilers for me since I haven't finished the series yet, the lol's were more than worth it. Meanwhile, is anyone still watching The Crown? I haven't liked it since Diana showed up but I'm a completionist so I marathoned the last episodes of season six. The Queen actually isn't in it all that much, it's more focused on the younger generation. We see the deaths of Margaret and the Queen Mother, and how both The Queen and Phillip planned their own funerals. Phillip seems to think it's fun. The Queen not so much. William is portrayed very well. He's shy but responsible. The actor looks exactly like young William, it's uncanny. Kate also comes off well. She's hot (and she knows it), she's nice, and she genuinely likes William, though the fact that he's the heir certainly doesn't hurt. However, the two people who don't come off very well are Carole Middleton, and Prince Harry. The former is basically a stalker, and the latter is a crazy party guy. The infamous Nazi uniform makes an appearance, though it was at a party *celebrating* colonialism so everyone's costume was offensive. And the waitstaff being entirely POC didn't help either. I suppose both Carole and Harry's portrayals are accurate(ish), but still, Peter Morgan didn't pull any punches. There's a funny line in the last episode where Harry references William II, who was (probably) murdered by his younger brother, Henry. Harry's all like, "But of course I would never do something like that," and Wills is all, "Sure Jan."

I disliked that The Crown became all NOT about the Queen, the Prime Minister, and things going on around the world that happened. It’s all about Diana. Haven’t watched the final 6 yet…

I will finish The Crown - so far I've gotten as far as the first half of the last season. I think it lost its luster when it transitioned from being a show that took historical events and imagined what happened behind the scenes as they were unfolding to a show that tried to recreate famous tabloid photos in every episode.

I liked the part in The Crown when Jonathan Pryce thought back to when he was Matt Smith (I think it's Episode 5 of the latest season). I enjoy it as soap opera, but really couldn't buy the idea that Prince Philip, of all people, could be the armchair psychologist who helps Charles and William empathize with each other and hug it out.
Also, in this season Dominic West really makes Charles appear more human and sympathetic than I suspect he really is. In the show, West/Charles seems angry about Wills' publicity and screaming fans because he knows how horribly they affected Diana's life. In real life, I suspect Charles is just petulant about anyone getting more or better publicity than he does.

Did anyone watch Fellow Travelers on Paramount +/Showtime? I started watching as a Linus Roache fangirl (he has a supporting role), but the series itself was fantastic. I’ve been a fan of Matt Bomer since his time on Guiding Light - he has such presence in this. Jonathan Bailey was equally as fantastic. Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, the two of them have been doing a lot of press for the series. It’s been nominated for both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice award for Best Limited Series. I hope it wins!

Yes, I've enjoyed Slow Horses a lot. My hubby was trying to get me to watch it for a year- I finally started and really enjoy it. I will say it took me about 3 episodes to get into it.
Another GREAT show is The Bridge- it's Swedish and Danish. So good. (I think the last season was 2018 so it's not a new show)

The Bridge was remade into a British series called The Tunnel. There's also a US/Mexico version also called The Bridge, but I didn't watch that one. The Tunnel was good.

Anyone watching Traitors (the US version)? It's soooo frustrating to watch, but I absolutely love it!
