I completely agree with your assessment of the alien thing, Carolina. I thought the documentary itself was not really at all well made, but the story is so insane it was still really compelling. One thing that really bugged me was that apparently nothing happened to the lawyer who threatened to reveal Mary Ann's infidelity if she and the dad didn't sign the 'B definitely didn't kidnap our daughter' papers. I'm pretty sure that counts as extortion but no one else seemed to think so. I also really would like to know what Mary Ann's reaction to the handjob was, if I remember correctly they didn't talk about that at all. And that FBI agent had the patience of a SAINT. B was definitely a good manipulator but it's kind of amazing he managed to move next door to a family where the parents were so naive and perceived themselves as having a lot to hide.
I was also VERY curious about B's wife and children. I can see why none of them would have agreed to be interviewed for the documentary but also: dang.

I was also VERY curious about B's wife and children. I can see why none of them would have agreed to be interviewed for the documentary but also: dang. Wasn’t the person who told the family that they would expose the secrets unless they signed B’s wife (Gale, I think)? The podcast True Crime Obsessed covered this, and in the podcast behind their Patreon paywall, they interviewed the director and one of the producers of the documentary. They revealed that the book Jan and the mom wrote did not include the parts about infidelity (any of it. The mom or the dad’s). And while they had learned a bit about the mom’s affair with B going into the filming, they had no idea about the dad beyond some hints from the research (probably from B’s confessions), and they were floored when he brought it up. The director was asked, “So, the dad is gay, right? How does the family feel about that?” And she basically said that whatever is going on internally, he made the choice to be the head of this family. Maybe if he were in a different environment or different church/no church he would have taken a different path, but he seems happy with his choice and so does his family. She also said Jan is very protective of her parents despite everything and worried how they would be judged in the documentary, so...I just guess this family decided to stick together through all this no matter what happened.

OK, I'm 3 episodes into Russian Doll. It's *funny*. Apparently, my black heart loves watching people die over and over again.

Watched the third season of One Day at a Time. I continue to love this show in all its comfort food glory.
And I love the very realistic touches - Penelope is a single mom on a tight budget. And I recognized several of the pieces of her wardrobe as being from Old Navy (in one case because I was actually wearing the same shirt while watching Penelope wear it in a scene). So many shows put their “poor” characters in $50 t-shirts because the cut is better and they look better on TV. Or they put them in vintage and say, “See! They wear old clothes because they are poor! They probably got that at Good Will!” No, that’s a $50 vintage shirt you got at a vintage boutique.
Just stuff like that is a nice, realistic touch. That and this season they explained that Schneider hasn’t ever raised her rent in the 17 years she’s lived in that place, explaining how she can afford a three bedroom apartment in LA on just her $60K per year while raising two kids.

I'm so happy One Day At A Time is back. I've only watched the first episode because I'm trying to draw it out even though one of the producers was saying on Twitter that is one of the worst things you can do with Netflix shows.Apparently Twitter only looks at engagement with a show in the first couple of weeks after it is released which seems dumb. I might just let it autoplay while I'm doing something else so it gets the hits.
I watched the Valentine's day episode of Big Mouth. It was mostly fun although I am not sure what they are doing with Andrew. He is coming pretty close to irredeemable.

Yeah, last year when it looked like ODAAT might not get renewed I’d start it up and let it run while I was out to help with the numbers. Also watched Big Mouth and agree it was pretty good. I’m glad Nick figured out that having Connie as a hormone monster is a good thing (and not just because Connie is the best thing ever). I think they are doing the “toxic nice guy” thing with Andrew, and I’m glad the show never lets him get away with it. But it is getting to the point where I don’t know why his friends still hang out with him. He’s doing stuff even Jay would never do.

ETA- What did everyone think of the 2nd episode of I Am the Night? It was OK. I definitely got a creepy vibe when Fauna was at the Sowden House. Whoever shot this is getting just the right angles to make it feel extra sinister.

I also gotta recommend PEN15 on Hulu. The name makes it sound like it’s gonna be a live-action Big Mouth, but it actually isn’t all that bawdy (though it is there. Like the episode where one of the characters discovers masturbation).
It stars two comedians who are in their 30s playing 13 year old versions of themselves. And all the other “kid” roles are played by actual kids, so it takes a minute to get past that, but it doesn’t take long (though one of the comedians is pretty tall and you are reminded when you see her towering over everyone else). But they capture the wonders and horrors of being in 7th grade pretty perfectly.
And it’s set when the actresses were in 7th grade - so, like 1999-2000. It’s cargo pants and AOL all over the place.
