I'm pretty sure Taylor is in Philly for the next night or two playing at Lincoln Financial Field. Maybe something else is happening at Gillette? Three nights in Philadelphia. But people were lined up at 7am Thursday just to buy merch. And people without tickets were tailgating in the parking lots trying to hear the concert?

Good for her, especially if she's putting on a good show. I only know her big radio hits and I could take it or leave it, but I'm impressed by her work ethic. It's an unpopular opinion these days, but I've never been able to get into her music. It's nothing special to me, and when a Taylor Swift song comes on I'm more likely than not to change the channel. To be fair, I also don't know anything beyond the biggest hits. I do think she probably puts on a hell of a concert.

I saw a video of people sitting in lawn chairs around the stadium in Nashville and singing along.

I like Swift's music fine, she's really developed well as a songwriter. Where I do find her curious is that she's turned into the classic "separate art from artist" case. But since her whole brand is built on being very relatable and a hero to her fans, her team needs to drown out all the shady stuff she does with either fluff or misdirections. www.buzzfeed.com/stephaniesoteriou/taylor-swift-fans-distancing-matty-healy-brutalize-womenwww.buzzfeed.com/stephaniesoteriou/taylor-swift-fans-disappointed-matty-healy-controversiesShe was pretty side-eye-worthy already for taking years for reacting to all these White Power types co-opting her as their princess. And now she's giving a platform to this guy. It's not only that she's dating him, who cares, he's playing at her shows. And her team is obviously cleaning up his image for her. None of this will hurt her, of course, since her fandom is predominantly white anyway and doesn't care. And neither, probably, does she. Dito with her ridiculous carbon footprint or her association with people like D.O. Russel or Lena Dunham. Artists are not heroes and most of them (or all of them) are problematic to some degree, getting personally invested in them as opposed to their art and not separating that usually leads to a trainwreck. She's not unique in that. It is interesting, though, that she's built her image on being perpetually right and perpetually the victim and so now her team is constantly very tightly controlling press and narrative to keep that going. Moreso than is necessary for other artists who are not packaged as relatable girl next door, I think.

I started out surprised by the Matty Healy thing, but upon further reflection, it's very much Taylor's pattern to jump from relationship to relationship. He is scummy, and she's got no problems being very public with him just a short time after her break-up with Joe. The timing is sketchy and it's rumored there was some overlap, which is not unusual for Taylor. When things end with one guy the next guy is already there or not too far away. I thought with Joe she had settled down into an adult relationship but she's back to playing games. Something happened that makes her want to let the world know she's moved on with this man. Her last several relationships have all had overlap or not much single time in between.
We have all met people like this who can't stand to be single for even a minute. There always has to be a romantic relationship going on. Taylor is one of those people and she's picked a terrible person to rebound with (and I hope that is all it is). It would probably be really healthy for her to be single for a while.

It just wouldn't be fun for her fans if she wrote songs about tall trees or sailing across the ocean and fans couldn't devote hours to speculating which forest or which ocean the song was about!

I mean, I STILL wanna know who You’re So Vain is about…. (I will grudgingly take Carly’s coy “One verse is about Warren.” But who else?)

I guess so, I don't know why there are all these trains! I think there was a commuter rail issue on one of the lines and people were being re-routed onto other trains.. #keolis sucks But the commuter rail lines ARE sold out for Friday/Saturday and Sunday this weekend for her concert and it's going to be an ABSOLUTE nightmare between the C's playing at the Garden, Janet Jackson at Xfinity and TayTay at Gilette. It's gonna be like Salem in October. My son had a club soccer game in RI originally scheduled for 4 PM on Saturday as a makeup game but the coaches apparently got together and were like "um, hey, so like, could we um, maybe try to move it so that we aren't all stuck living on 95/Rt 1 for 6 hours trying to get through that nonsense?" They were gracious enough to move it to Sunday morning. Parents were trying to figure out hotels and dog boarding. I had friends who went to the Philly show with their 8-9 year old daughters and they said that it was the safest they'd felt at a concert since Lillith fair and that it was fun making friendship bracelets with their daughters to give away at the concerts. My daughter's soccer team needed a hype song- they were getting SMOKED by teams in their division.. her team is all 3rd graders.. they are good which is why they're in the division but they are all tiny and they're playing GIANT fourth graders so my son suggested Bad Blood featuring Kendrick Lamar and watching these teeny tiny rail thin suburban super white girls come onto the field with their heads boppin on beat and mean muggin to Kendrick Lamar has actually seemed to help. Is it the song, is the beat, is it Taylor is it Kendrick? who knows but I wanna write them a thank you note.

Thanks for the traffic report in greater Boston this weekend, sincerely! I am now trying to plan surface road routes to hotels and the Norwood Theater for Saturday. Looking like Upton/Washington may be a straight shot.
I am hoping we time our arrival tomorrow night while everyone is playing, and we hit the eye of the traffic storm!
Topic: I like Taylor enough to let her songs play when they come on. So, better than REO Speedwagon w/ Kevin Cronin, and the Kars for Kids jingle!
