Whether it's about arranged marriages (The Wedding Banquet), matchmaking for 19th-century English sisters (Sense and Sensibility) 1970s suburban decay (The Ice Storm), a kung-fu love story ([Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) or a certain Oscar front-runner for Best Picture at this year's Oscars that some of you may have heard of (Brokeback Mountain), nobody does repression like Ang Lee. I really liked The Hulk too. I liked it when he did those comic columns (bad description).

He also does a remarkable job of working with actors of all ages. He's catapulted the careers of so many people--Kate Winslet, Christina Ricci, Ziyi Zhang, Tobey Maguire, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams.

What's the other film in that trilogy he did? There's Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman, I don't remember the third one.

Love him, love him, love him. The Wedding Banquet is truly bittersweet, hilarious and painful. And even though it was overhyped I really think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stands the test of time; I still get a kick out of watching it.

His general versatility astounds me.

I wasn't crazy about The Hulk, but in a bizarre way it gave me a lot of respect for Ang Lee; it's a pretty rare movie where even as I dislike it I find a tremendous amount to respect about it. I thought the cartoon-panel frames were really brilliant too.

I liked Hulk, too. I thought it was cool that he kept referencing the comic book roots of the thing. The story was stupid as all hell (mutant poodles and crazy Nolte - wtf?) but the look of the movie and the emotional resonance of the relationship between Eric Bana and Jennifer Connolly were very well done. Not his greatest movie, but not really worthy of the "awful" status it has.

He has been so charming collecting his awards. I wonder what he is like to work with. He seems like a guy who you would want to do your best for - to make him proud... or something. He seems like a great person as well as a great director.
