Everyone was talking about where they're going to travel once this is over and it was a lot of Hawaii's and Europe's and the Carribeans and we looked like idiots when we said "Disney World" But we were supposed to go this past December so we're hoping to make good on the promise. I mean I guess if we hit Epcot we can do Germany, the UK, France, China, Mexico,Norway, Japan, Canada and Italy. Disney!!! I’ll see you there 🙂 and we can happily snack around the World Showcase. I also really want to go back to Hotel Xcaret in Mexico. That place is heaven. We're hoping to go at Christmas time next year. We went in that low period after Thanksgiving but before Xmas. My parents paid for the trip and my husband was WILDLY against going because "its a waste of money for something that they won't remember" and then I went and bought everyone tickets for the "Mickeys Merry Xmas Party" which again my husband was bullshit about... and wouldn't you know it.. the kids remember it and my husband probably had the most fun and was RAVING about the Xmas party and said "Next time we go, we're definitely doing that again and just buying the tickets for one less day at the park! Those rides were walk on! That was AMAZING" I also got completely lit on the Pointsetta Porter at Epcot and I very nearly barfed on the Frozen ride and made no secret about how they should have left it as the Matterhorn

Those rides were walk on! That was AMAZING" I also got completely lit on the Pointsetta Porter at Epcot and I very nearly barfed on the Frozen ride and made no secret about how they should have left it as the Matterhorn I began taking my children to Disney yearly from the time my youngest was a 1.5 years. I cannot tell you how much eye rolling, lip curling and side eying I received. One grandma at nursery sucked her teeth and said, "that wasn't for them. That was for you." I saved up points from my Disney Visa, and when the kids are under 3 they are Mickey's guest so it was not costly. Obviously we did not go on space mountain or anything, and aside from one time my youngest refused to get on Splash Mountain at the last minute there were no meltdowns. Even when my babes were pre verbal they LOVED it. They would point to things on the rides and clap. My oldest called "Small World" the "ohh lala dancers ride" for ages because she loved the little French can can dancers. And my youngest points and say, "It's Egypt wif da Sphynx who has no nose." We love it. And I am a solo parent. This means I do quite a bit of the heavy lifting myself, and I do not mind that one tiny bit. When I fell pregnant with my youngest kid my father really went down hill. There were days I was spoon-feeding my father AND my child. Again, this is not a complaint at all, and one of my sisters really helped with his care. Having one week away to not do laundry, to not have to be at work dealing with carriers and nursery drop off and not have to pack lunches and to have a very kind cast member bring me and my kids Mickey waffles was lovely. My children sampled all sorts of food, and I could relax with them in a kid friendly environment. I could practice my horrible French and just take it all in. Not only do my children remember it. They treasure it. We were supposed to leave to go on our annual trek today. Sod Covid.

It annoys me so much that "that was for you" was supposed to be an insult! I am very glad you have had some well-deserved great experiences. God forbid any woman with children enjoy herself, ever. Also I forgot to mention that we are also planning a Disney trip! My group of high school friends and I are all turning 30 this year and one of them wants to do a 'destination birthday,' if you will, at Disney. And personally I am just happy to go to Disney If that works out, we'll be going in mid-December.

I think my husband was just sort of dreading the whole thing with a 7 year old and a 3 year old. That it was a lot of walking and managing meltdowns from being over stimulated and over tired. He and my son are twins in the "I'm going to be against something on principle but will change my mind once I'm having fun."
We did the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor and my daughter got picked to be Boo, and my husband took my son on the tea cups ( I can't do spinny things in my old age) and we still say "how fast do you wanna go? BARF FAST!" 3 years later. We only did the Barnstormer roller coaster and my daughter was so psyched, then cried the whole time, then got off and asked to do it again. This all happening on the first day gave him he attitude adjustment he needed..He'd never been to Animal kingdom and he loved it and my son kept asking to do the dinosaur time travel ride.. I was actually on that the summer it opened and I wrenched my neck so hard I was leery of going but went just to experience it with him. I'm looking forward to going back...
So much had changed since either of us had been there. His parents came and my parents came so it was a nice trip. Because things had changed so much we weren't sure what to expect but when we go next time we'll pick a different meal plan and a different hotel (we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter- which was nice, and quiet and all that jazz but was also a bit hard to navigate with a wheelchair- my mom had emergency back surgery about 3 weeks before and it was just difficult for her to get to her room) But next time my son wants to stay at the Contemporary because he's obsessed with the monorail. We got to do the Naavi River Cruise (and I got the drink with the light up "seed" and I'm pretty sure that drink saved my marriage after a long day)but not the other Avatar ride. They were building out Hollywood Studios when we were there so I'm definitely excited for the Toy Story and Star Wars rides too. Mostly, after all this, I want a Mickey Pretzel and a Dole Whip.

The implementation that my kids were not enjoying it was hurtful. They actually LOVE it. My nine year old still loves Pooh Bear. Only one time did I make a huge faux pas with Splash Mountain. I have apologized to my baby numerous times. I want to ride the Star Wars rides badly, but my youngestbis not ready.

I just want to GO! Mask wearing will probably be part of the conversation for a while, but I want to be able to just go someplace and not have to wonder if this is a hotspot to be avoided, if they are open or not, will I HAVE to wear a mask or not, will I feel comfortable.... I miss that spontaneous “let’s get in the car and go someplace” time.

We took our kids to Disney for the first time during the slower period after Thanksgiving but before Christmas and it was the perfect time to go. I especially love seeing the park decorated for the holiday.
For our post-COVID trip, we are going to St. John, USVI. We honeymooned there and always said we would go back with our kids for our 20th anniversary but I had a medical issues and we couldn’t go so we said we’d go the following year but COVID. After that, we will go back to Disney/Universal with friends and their kids. I can’t wait to travel!!

I also love Disney, but have never been to Disney World - it seems so overwhelming! I grew up in So Cal so honestly can't remember the first time I went to Disneyland but I love it. I need to ask my dad if he still has any of the original A-B tickets in his sock drawer. I had season passes for several years in the late 90's until our daughter was born in 2000. We go at least every 3 years but since they've been closed since last April I figure we need to wait awhile when they reopen as it will be CRAZY.
Frankly as a parent I can't do the 16-hour days there now anyway, our last two trips we let my two (then three) teens close down the parks while we chilled in our room at the Disney Hotel and they had a blast.
And Disney is GREAT for little kids. When my youngest was three, we got reserved front-row seats for the parade just for asking a question to one of the cast members, so we didn't have to sit on the sidewalk for two hours so he could see. I also don't think any of my kids remember when they first visited. They will also let one partner wait with a kid too small to go on the big rides and give a pass to walk onto the ride for the other person after.
One of my favorite Disney memories we didn't even go in the park... the year after that trip mentioned above, we drove to California from Wichita, and I wanted to get a "Disneyland" (not "Disney") sweatshirt for the youngest. We parked at Downtown Disney and I told my husband to take the two boys (four and seven) to the mini Jungle Boats between the hotels, while I took our daughter to the huge Disney store. (Who else remembers the mini Jungle Boats? You plugged quarters to be able to steer the little boats around the marina. They got rid of it when they did the final hotel remodel.)
When I got back, he was sitting enjoying a cocktail at the bar overlooking the marina, watching the boys have a great time sailing the boats, chatting with the bartender, and he was ***this*** close to handing the bartender his credit card and asking him to call guest services about getting a room at the resort for the night.

I’ve actually been to Disney World more as an adult than as a child, we went once when I was 9 and the next time we went I was 26. On of my favorite memories is on the first night when we went in 2014, we were watching the fireworks in Magic Kingdom and my brother had my then 3-year-old niece sitting on his shoulders, and when she saw Mickey Mouse being projected onto Cinderella’s Castle she was so excited and said “Daddy look! It’s Mickey! It’s Mickey!” Even though I was still exhausted from the flight and wanted to go to bed really badly, my heart just melted and I realized the whole thing was worth it.
I’m turning 40 in a couple of years and I fully intend to go to Disney World to celebrate. Not on my actual birthday though, because that’s the summer and there’s no way in hell I’m going to Florida in the summer. Probably in the late fall. I’ve never been to Disneyland and I would like to go, hopefully sometime within the next few years.

My daughter was OBSESSSED with Minnie Mouse.. we didn't do a whole lot of the "character meets" but we made it a point for Minnie Mouse. My daughter took her Minnie ears off and gave them to Minnie and the smile on her face in that picture was worth a million bucks.. she had this look of "well, I've peaked. There's nothing left in life to look forward to."
