Yeah, totally understandable move from Page IMO. With pandemic restrictions what they are, he would have needed to do quarantine etc. even for short cameos and who needs that when he has good offers and needs to be available for productions where he's actually the star?
Anthony's book is the strongest one, I'd agree. If they don't screw it up, it should go well. Bailey did well even with the sketchy material he was given in season one, he can totally shine with decent writing. The Kate and Edwina they cast are super pretty and I'm looking forward to seeing them in action. :-)
Bridgerton is also a series that is episodic enough that it can do without the presence of all the siblings at all times. Something like the Bedwyn series by Balogh, IMO much better books, would be more problematic in this aspect because their bond and how intimidating it makes them to outsiders is pretty central to the books. And Wulfric in particular is such a strong presence.

This show was like one of those trashy Regency books that you're sort of ashamed of reading but don't want to put down either until the end. I started the show, but had to stop mid-season, go watch Pride & Prejudice (2005) and then get back to it to finish it because I couldn't take all of it at once. I know what it was trying to do, but it was such a poor Jane Austen's substitute, with none of the wit & charm that I usually expect from British period pieces.
Hastings was very charming (and hot hot hot!) as was the lady who raised him. And Penelope. The middle brother, Benedict showed some promise (I really thought he was gay at first). The rest of the cast were meh to terrible and the worst one to me was the queen. I can't believe that was Maya Rudolph. I wanted to slap her every time she came on screen. Couldn't stand her and her squinty eyes. So vain and terrible.
I didn't like the character of Eloise either. Trying to come across as so above balls & gossip and yet being consumed with the identity of some 19th century Liz Smith. A bit try hard.
By the end of it, it turned into soft core porn, what with the guy, not so subtly ACTUALLY pulling out before he came so he wouldn't...have a child? I half expected them to show sperm on the floor in one of the scenes. Wouldn't be surprised if they did actually.
PS: I looked up the cast. The queen wasn't Maya Rudolph. Phew. I thought someone had mentioned it here that it was her or I read it too fast.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

No problem. I read it too fast and it was late but I am very happy it wasn't her because I like Maya and I def didn't like the actress who played the queen at all. She looked like she was smelling something bad half of the time.

Bump. Haven’t started season 2 yet. Loved the book and I know once I start, I’ll binge. Must limit myself to one at a time!!!!

I’m enjoying season 2 so far. I have to say that every time Prudence is on screen, I see nothing but Carson, which jolts me out of the storyline, lol. Bessie Carter is the spitting image of her dad.

I'm halfway through and overall I'm enjoying it, though I don't see a ton of chemistry between Anthony and Kate. I understand why he would like her over her sister, who is perfect on paper but boring in reality, while Kate is fun and tomboyish, but the shift from "I hate you!" to "nevermind, let's f*ck" was really sudden. All it took was a bee and a sad flashback.
Eloise is my favorite character. She's hilarious. Lady Featherington is the most likeable semi-villain ever, she's so bad at scheming. And then there's Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, even the Bridgerton mother is given some character development. This show really thrives when it comes to the side characters, I'm more interested in them than I am in the main storyline this season.

Season two has proven that I continue to have some sort of face blindness when it comes to the Bridgerton brothers. I can’t tell the two eldest apart. Still. I mean, I can if they are standing next to each other, but when it’s a wide shot of just one of them, I have no idea who it is.
I will always love this show for the costumes, from the loud pink and yellow “Cinderella’s evil stepsisters” aesthetic of the Featheringtons (seriously, they are all redheads and are put in the worst colors for redheads), to the gorgeous teal they mostly dressed Kate in. That blue-teal is my favorite color and she looked amazing in it, which made me glad it appeared to be her signature color. Then bizarrely they would put her in lavender or pink and totally ruin it.
Kate’s sister Edwina didn’t seem all that impressive, but they do give her some good stuff in the last few episodes. Colin goes from someone who might be growing up into a decent person to “douchebag” in one move in the final episodes. And now that they are starting to style him like his older brothers I’m starting to him mixed up too. Honestly, he loses a bit of baby fat in his face and I won’t be able to recognize him, either.
I found Daphne super-boring in season one, but I think we got the right amount of her in this season and she was used well. And I’m kinda glad they mostly just didn’t bother to explain why her husband wasn’t around.

I think the differences of opinion are great. Some message boards loved Kate/Anthony. Some message boards don't like the Kate/Anthony pairing because both of them were so awful to Edwina. I am of that opinion too. By standards today, I think Kate and Anthony were cheating and it was very hard for me to root for them as a couple. I hated in the last scene Edwina was no where to be found. What about her happiness?
