I think Francesca is just quiet and and absorbs herself in her music. With 5 older siblings, she probably got overlooked a lot and found a place for herself. They are most likely laying the groundwork between this season and next for her story. Hopefully part 2 will lay more groundwork for Benedict’s story, which should have been season 3 in book order.

I’m legit crushing on Colin this season. {Spoiler}Did you notice his fingers when he adjusted Penelope’s dress in the carriage scene? I died!

I think the Penelope and Colin pairing the most interesting of all the seasons.

I'll be the curmudgeon and say "meh" to Polin. I'm not blind and appreciate Colin's glow-up, but he's kind of blah in terms of personality. Also, is he using condoms when cavorting with sex workers? If not, is Pen going to get an STD after the wedding? How come (in a previous season) he said he wanted to preserve Marina's honor and wouldn't kiss her, but then headed right to third base with Pen in the carriage?
And, looking back again, I love a book-loving wallflower who can write, but is Penelope's character really that fabulous? When she knew Marina was pregnant by someone else but was all set to marry Colin, why couldn't Penelope just seek a private conversation with Colin's mother, instead of embarrassing everyone with a Whistledown column about it? (I know, I know--because then there wouldn't be so many plot questions moving forward. And that's a genuine question--maybe Lady Featherington grounded her and I don't remember it.)
And don't get me started on the fake fingernails and eyelashes! I don't look to Bridgerton for historical accuracy but those are beyond belief.
Despite all this, I'm watching, and looking forward to the second half of the season.

Also, is he using condoms when cavorting with sex workers? If not, is Pen going to get an STD after the wedding? Lol, I've actually seen people on other forums talking about this. Their logic is that if Bridgerton exists in a world where there is no electricity but there are fake eyelashes and modern fabrics, then STDs don't exist. Unless the plot calls for them. Pen is a villain. She's the nice girl who was bullied one too many times. Hurt people hurt people. She has a chance to get back at the Mean Girls via Lady Whistledown and she loves it. And I think that makes her an interesting character, but it also means I don't root for her. Or at least, I root for her the way I kind of rooted for Cersei in Game of Thrones. I loved to hate her. But you can't take a villain and have her do horrible things and then expect me to want her to find true love with a sweet, honorable guy. I know she will because that's her character arc, Colin will find out about LW, there will be some drama, and then they'll reconcile, but that's plot armor talking. A guy like Colin would more realistically find that unforgiveable and would never speak to her again.

I think the Penelope and Colin pairing the most interesting of all the seasons. Love, love, love this pairing. But I read the books on a beach vacation before the show, so they are my OG pairing. Re: STDs, what about Anthony and Benedict, the rakes? I feel Bridgerton exists in a world without STDs…for the upper class.

Thanks, phillipa, that is helpful! It's a romance, so I know everyone* heads to happily-ever-after, but I was struggling.
*Well, "everyone" here means the Bridgerton siblings.

Well I wasn't speaking to the morality of Penn's character it's just that the other 'featured pairings' the others were just so bland for lack of a better word. And as for STDs in real life it was endemic back then. I took a class in music appreciation, it came up that several composers in the 18th and 18th century were afflicted. I read a little about it and it was quite common. Ewww!

Is anyone watching Queen Charlotte? Yes! I just finished it! I loved it! Realistic or not, this love story has more meat on its bones than those in Bridgerton.
