Is anyone else watching this?
It's pretty much a rehash of Jane Austen tropes, but with a multi-racial cast. I've been watching it on Netflix and have been enjoying it. Sure, it's fluff, but fluff is exactly what I need right now.

I watched it and wish it went longer! It was exactly what I needed right now, nothing more serious than a duel at dawn and beautiful homes and gardens.

I binged it over Christmas.
I had a very hard time at first, because there are so many anachronisms, and I'm such a pedant. Once I did that, though, I allowed myself to enjoy the pretty clothes, and pretty jewelry, and pretty interior decorating, and pretty, pretty men.

Watched the first episode and though I'm neither a Romance or Regency Romance fan, I enjoyed it a lot. It's a total fantasy and all the actors looked like they were enjoying themselves immensely.

Anachronisms don't bother me in this show because it's an alternate reality where a black woman is Queen.
However, things that don't make sense bother me (as I mentioned in the general tv watching thread), like tightening a corset on a woman who is going to be wearing empire waist dresses. What's the point of the torture? I assume the point was to emphasize how much women suffered just to be decorative for men, but in this case it was pointless. Although, when the mother said something like how she was an orange and a half at that age, I actually estimated with my hands. An orange and a half waist is very very tiny.

An Orange and a half, what sort of witchcraft was that, me I’m a crate and half of oranges going by that

I'm about halfway through this, and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. I kind of love the candy-colored, extremely inaccurate costumes and accessories, it reminds me a lot of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, which is IMO a super underrated movie. It's also fun to watch the ball scenes where the orchestra plays Billie Eilish.
It's definitely one gigantic Jane Austen trope, complete with scheming and frantic mothers, disinterested fathers, and romantic misunderstandings, but with sexuality as well (one person on YouTube called it "Bangerton"). It's fun and fluffy and filled with pretty men. I like it.

Binged on this last night and tonight, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I hope Maya Rudolph sticks around SNL for a while, because they need her for Queen Charlotte when she's not doing Kamala.
