Prefacing this with, I know he's crazy, but why does he think cutting SS benefits for 75% of the population even if it was random is a good idea? That's torch & pitchfork territory. Not cutting SS benefits, cutting government employees by using their SS numbers. He says that would avoid people suing based on discrimination. Of course, it would wipe out the economies of quite a few places in the US, what with the flood of suddenly unemployed people. Musk has said that he knows there would be "a couple of years of turmoil" while he's slashing and burning the government. I guess he doesn't realize that the entire House of Representatives and a third of the Senate is up for re-election in two years. I bet the members will remember they'll have to face their constituencies in the face of double-digit unemployment and no government services. Musk is also proposing that employees who are eliminated got 2-3 years of severance to give them time to get training, move, or do whatever they need to adjust into new jobs.

That's a lot of money for all the employees they'd cut to make government smaller. Where are we going to come up with that kind of money? Two to three years is crazy. It's nice, but still totally crazy.

Now, I’m just the bass player here, but….
It strikes me that firing 75% of ANY workforce, but then paying them for up to 3 years anyway, is a PROFOUNDLY inefficient way to run a railroad.
I am reminded of a tweet I saw just after Elmo bought Twatter. I will paraphrase it here:
“Everyone said Musk was a genius for co-founding PayPal, and since I din’t know much about banking, I went with it.
They said he was a genius for his involvement with Tesla, and since I don’t know anything about electric cars, I went with it.
Then they said he was a genius because of SpaceX, and I am not a rocket scientist, so I accepted it.
Now Musk has bought twitter, and I know a LOT about computer programming. And Musk is a fucking imbecile.”

“If your Social Security number ends in an odd number, you’re out. If it ends in an even number, you’re in. There’s a 50 percent cut right there. The Thanos method, then. They're comic book villains.

Where I live, the vast majority of the government employees are defense related. And NASA. The people who get fired will then be lining up to get on with the zillions of defense and space subcontractors who are also here. Since the defense budget never gets cut, it feels like it would just be moving the money from one pot to another. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think the defense budget should be shrunk but I don't see in what world that will happen. Plus, Elon benefits from it.
Geez...while I was typing this I got a news alert that Dr. Oz will lead Medicare and Medicaid. He'll probably replace life-saving medications with supplements.

Oh, got it on the SSN thing. They still are planning to get rid of SS and Medicare though, right? Saw this NYT Opinion piece on Reddit today (it's a gift link, I think it will work here.) It says many within the Kremlin are celebrating Trump's win; not because Trump is Putin's puppet, or because of Ukraine, but because they truly think Trump will bring about the collapse of the American state. Even the opinion writer didn't think this was very likely, but still a chilling read.

Among other comparisons that i have been making since Election Day, one that sticks in my mind is Putin is trying to make the US go through what post-Soviet Russia went through in the 1990s.

Is it possible Ramaswamy was simply joking? Nope.In fairness, Ramaswamy goes on, in that video, to say it's a thought experiment. What he'd prefer (again, from the video) is that government employees be retained on the basis of their knowledge of the Constitution and general fitness for their jobs. The host points out that if the 25% percent who are left in their jobs are smart and competent, then other smart and competent people will be attracted to government jobs. I am in no way a supporter of Ramaswamy, his ideas, or anyone else in the incoming administration; just wanted to say that the SSN elimination method is a random idea, not a policy proposal YET. He likes the idea because he thinks it would ward off wrongful termination lawsuits. Also, the first digit of one's SSN is a reflection of where you were born (or where you lived when you first applied for a SSN), not where you live now. Since there's a certain amount of internal migration in the US, firing people based on that number would not necessarily harm one state or another. Each new Cabinet nomination makes me want to retch. I can't believe that R senators are our last line of defense against the s#!+show that is looming in January.

That's hilarious since incoming Pres and the employees he's appointing have zero knowledge of the Constitution or general fitness for the jobs he's chosen for them. What position has he promised Ramaswamy?
