It's been years since I've seen a Courtney Love thread, and yet my default reaction is still "Oh God, now what?"

It's been years since I've seen a Courtney Love thread, and yet my default reaction is still "Oh God, now what?" I (unfortunately) share her first name, so my dad would save every clipping of her carousel of self-destruction. I appreciate she wrote that op-ed without one mention of her band.

Marc Maron interviewed her for WTF podcast a few months ago and it was an extravaganza of name dropping. She lives in her own universe though, so it was still interesting to listen to. Marc admitted up front that steering the interview was an impossible task so it was pretty much an hour of her stream of consciousness.
I don't doubt she would have good points about sexism though.

I feel like the subtext of Courtney's fight to get more women into the Hall of Fame is getting herself into the Hall of Fame, even if she has been studiously avoiding making it about that. Marc Maron interviewed her for WTF podcast a few months ago and it was an extravaganza of name dropping. LOL, I think Carrie Fisher told Courtney to try to cut down on all the name dropping. I believe I learned this factoid in the context of Courtney name dropping Carrie Fisher. Courtney really has improved when it comes to demanding attention all the time. I follow her on instagram, but I really don't know what she's actually up to. She seemed to be living peacefully in London that last time she made her location known.

It used to be the most interesting thing about her, IMO, and I think it's what kind of keeps her fun. Like who did she have some weird, unforeseen encounter with in her past? She's like a punk rock Forrest Gump.

Wow. Courtney must have really sobered up to write something so eloquent! She should write more and namedrop less. She said Lester Bangs was her hero. She should follow in his footsteps.

That was really well written, I'm surprised but pleased (and also pretty annoyed that they haven't added Chaka Khan, because she's more than earned it.)

I'm not surprised; her intelligence and vast music knowledge would make her able to write about this topic concisely and powerfully. As much as she name-drops, she's been around SO many famous people, she IS a Forrest Gump-like figure! That's an apt description, americanchai and thank for the correction, Auroranorth.

It's been years since I've seen a Courtney Love thread, and yet my default reaction is still "Oh God, now what?" LOL, mine was, "Oh dear, let's hope it's nice news about Frances."
