I'm a huge Meryl fan, but the "fuck the haters" bit at the beginning of her speech bothered me. It sounded really bad.

I didn't think the sentiment was fuck the haters at all. I thought she was acknowledging that people who are annoyed and sick of her winning awards are justified...but what can she do?

She apparently reiterated that sentiment in the press room afterwards (from EW)-

I have everything I’ve ever dreamed of in my life. I think there’s room for other people and frankly I understand ‘Streep fatigue’ and it shocks me that it didn’t override this tonight. I was really happy, but I don’t take anything for granted, that’s for sure.

From the look of things, even she was expecting Viola Davis to win. But still, she won and she should feel free to enjoy it.

She's nominated again for August: Osage County - I was surprised to read this in EW

Streep made it by the skin of her those teeth she was incessantly tapping as she smoked and snarled in August: Osage County. If there was a snub coming in this group, I thought it would be her — since affection for that movie was low.

Who’s out: Emma Thompson as fussy, bellicose Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers in Saving Mr. Banks. As mentioned earlier, Streep may have done herself a huge favor under the guise of doing a favor for Thompson. She savaged Banks at the National Board of Review ceremony just days one day before voting closed. And why was she on the stage? She had agreed to do the introduction for Thompson, a longtime friend.

Thompson is surely grateful.

I had Streep as the wildcard, but thought the final slot was between her and Adams. Turns out it was Thompson who was the vulnerable one, thanks to that last-minute bit of gamesmanship by Streep.

I heard that Meryl made some comments about Disney, but they were stronger than I thought.  I've always heard good things about her, so was surprised that EW was so upfront saying it was gamesmanship for a nomination, but it certainly doesn't seem like the right time to make that Disney speech otherwise.  Why slam him in a tribute to your friend who was in his movie?

I think the article is a bit snarky in tone but it would be hilarious in an All About Eve kind of way if Meryl threw Emma under the bus by slamming Disney and ended up getting an Oscar nomination herself.

I can't imagine DisneyCorp is too pleased with Meryl's comments either, considering she is starring in their version of Into the Woods this year.

I thought she was not only terrible in that movie, but completely wrong for the role. But that's just me I guess- apparently scenery chewing will get you a nom if your initials are MS.

I like the dress and the red pattern, but not the cream color. Wearing cream when you're really white washes you out and makes you look ill or old.
