Basinger New Face for Prada

Academy award-winning actress Kim Basinger has been enlisted by Italian fashion designer Muiccia Prada to model her new spring/summer Mui Mui collection. Basinger, 51, who was a successful model before turning to acting, is the latest middle-aged female star to be chosen by highly acclaimed fashion houses, including Madonna, 47, and Demi Moore, 42, who both starred in recent Versace campaigns. A source tells British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, "Basinger's just finished shooting the spring/summer 2006 Miu Miu campaign in Paris. Muccia chose Basinger for the intellectual sensuality she has, which is quite unique. She was also a cover girl before she became an actress, so she's no stranger to modeling."

I think it's great, but I'm not that into her looks. I remember watching this cheesy movie with Alyssa Hanigan, where Basinger was an alien and came down to earth as the most beautiful woman, but it didn't work for me (strangely enough with that brilliant plot, heh?)

I think you mean Alison Hannigan, and the movie was My Stepmother Is An Alien. I used to love that movie, and thought Kim was stunning in it. I think that is when she looked her best.

I feel so sorry for her daughter. Their custody battle has been endless and that's gotta be so hard on a child. If Baldwin's allegations that she's abused their daughter have any merit then I really feel sorry for her.

^^^Word Spiffsin, I'm actually pretty shocked by how ugly and public the custody battle has been (their daughter is only like 11-12 yrs old). Must have been an even uglier divorce.

Ipatrice, you're right, it was Alison Hannigan (I was tired when I wrote it). I guess, I kind of hated the concept of her being the most beautiful woman, because at that time, it seemed like every woman should have long, blond hair to be considered beautiful, so to me she just looked like everyone else.

She so beautiful to me, but like a Barbie. She's also in one of the worst movies ever made, Cool World. I've never been particularly impressed with her acting, but I've never really heard anything bitchy about her so I don't mind her, I guess.

From what I have heard about both her and Alec Blandwin, they both are a little nuts-- he's got a huge ego and temper, and I think I've read that she suffers from pretty severe social anxiety disorder, depression, and other mental health related things. It's really sad that the kid may be stuck in the middle of the fallout.

Kim Basinger actually is a decent actress. She was once touted as the Next Big Star during the 1980s, and she totally blew it on a series of bad movies. Then, when she finally won an Oscar, what did she do? Go back to making more bad movies. The woman's taste in scripts is appalling. I kind of wish she'd pack it in as an actress, frankly.

I don't like her or Alec. They are both making baboons out of themselves with this ridiculous and very public custody battle. Plus, they actually named their kid "Ireland." That's ridiculous. (Although it could be even worse-I once read about a woman who called her daughter "Irelynn." Gaahhh.)

As for Kim herself, I've always heard she was a total diva back in the day, when she was poised for mega-stardom, and only calmed down after making a bunch of bombs and getting her ass sued off by a director in the mid-1990s. So, no love here. I do think her ex-husband is a bigger creep than she is, though.
