Read this morning that he's passing the baton to Ryan Secrest or some such. True? Ugh, I hope not. I was pretty toasted last night, so I wasn't really paying attention to what was on the TV but it's sad to hear that he wasn't as energized as usual. Good for him for doing the show, though.

I was kinda disappointed in it. I kept waiting to see him and just kept hearing his voice. Finally the ball drops and they show the shot of him kissing his wife and you could barely see him. Hope he didn't wear himself out.

How about darkISH, with a lot of gray? I thought the picture looked a little gauzy - you know the old trick they used to pull with aging movie stars to make them look better on camera? USED to.. what am I saying - Barbara Walters still does that trick.

I think Dick Clark's New Year's Celebration has been really canned and cheesy for years. But I always watch it because it's like celebrating with your sweet Grandpa. He seems like a nice, humble, hard working guy so even though I winced a bit when he talked sometimes, I'm glad he's still putting an effort in. He was way better than the Regis/Jillian Barbery annoy-fest going on over on the other station...

Going up there, sounding the way he did, in our youth obsessed culture did take a lot of courage. He was really brave last night.

You know, the first thing I thought was that the stroke stricken Dick Clark STILL seemed younger than Regis. I generally like Regis, but he's crossing majorly into overexposed territory. He just seemed like a goofy old man (in a tux, no less) out there with slutty Jillian.

I fell asleep and did not see his wife, what does she look like? Does she also look younger than her years, or is it a Barbara Bush situation.
Add me to the "Go Dick" crowd, he IS New Years Eve!

We watched Dick & Co. last night with our 8-year-old, who is the same age we were when "New Year's Rockin' Eve" premiered. I remember watching that first year and being so glad that there was an alternative to Guy Lombardo. What a trouper Dick Clark is! I can't imagine the courage and hard work it took for him to take part in the broadcast to the extent that he did--and he was wonderful.
Give it up, Reege--Dick is forever the king of New Year's.

No snark from me. After what DC's been through with the stroke and the rehab, I'm just glad he's still alive. As far as I'm concerned, replacing DC with Ryan Seacrest is like replaing sirloin with Spam-or ham, in this case.

Add me to the "no snark" list. I really admire him for going back on the air, even with his speech noticeably impaired.
We noticed that he only moved one hand while he was talking, and wondered if he might have some paralysis on the other side. He's always seemed so ageless, I guess it's a shock to be confronted with the fact that he's actually getting old, too!
We (there were four of us watching) thought the kiss looked really, really strange. To us, it looked like the wife was either pulling away, or just not reciprocating. To be fair, it was a quick shot, so there wasn't time to study it. There was just an odd vibe there. Hope we're all wrong!
