No snark from me either. I wasn't sure what to expect when I heard he'd be hosting again this year. He looked and sounded rough, but he gets my eternal respect for trying. Or, as my great aunt would say, "Bless his heart!"
Even with the stroke, he and his wife were getting a little randy during the midnight kiss! The sound guy (or gal) didn't turn off his mic and you could hear some serious smooching going on. Show us how it's done, Dick!!

Okay, I'll be the party pooper.
I can't stand Dick Clark. He looks so damn smug all the time. I want to throw a shoe at my television whenever his dumb mug pops up on it. Uggghh.

I can't party poop on a man who (to my knowledge) has generally been a nice guy for his whole career.
I thought the kiss looked a little awkward, too, but I figured it was because she had just rolled her chair over there and he probably can't move very well. He couldn't lift that left arm to put it around her, I'm figuring.

"Today show" just had a blurb on Dick, including a doc who specializes in strokes. I didn't realize that Dick has diabetes, which can contribute to the probability of having a stroke. The doc (who is not Dick Clark's physician) did say that in all probability, what we are seeing now is the full extent of his recovery. It did appear as though Dick's hands were affected by it (I didn't see the complete broadcast Saturday night and "Today" only showed a snip); he did not appear to use his right hand much at all. Still, kudos to the guy for being around and for being an inspiration to the rest of us.

I was in Vegas for New Year's so I missed it.
Does anyone know where on the web I can see it?

I was in Vegas for New Year's so I missed it. Does anyone know where on the web I can see it? CNN.com has a video clip--you can access it from their home page. (And if anyone would like to give me a quick tutorial in how to link to another site neatly, I would be forever grateful.) I had forgotten this, but one of the traditions at midnight has always been Dick's wife Kari showing up and getting a kiss on camera. I have to admit I welled up a little this year watching them. It was really lovely to see, after what has to have been a tough year for them both.

I give DC credit for appearing on camera also - obviously a LOT of rehab work went into getting ready for it, must have really motivated him.
However, the rest of the ABC program that night SUCKED! One trashy group after another, I was flipping back and forth for awhile and there was not a single performer that I could care less about.
And Mariah was there, 5 minutes after her boobs appeared! IMO she's a cartoon of her earler self - as are so many other celebs like trout-lips Meg Ryan, etc!

I admit I was curious to see how he looked, and shocked a bit by it...that's how conditioned we are to what we usually see on TV(and of course conditioned to Dick Clark). I also admit I came on here, saw the thread yesterday, and expected snarking; I was instead moved by the sincerity of all the posts. You're all a hell of a lot more gracious than the N Y Times' reporter who was unbeliveably horrible in today's paper...saying the most snide, disgusting things, seriously. She said watching DC was like the old relative who spends the holidays sitting immobile on the couch, crying and saying maudlin stuff about "liviing to see another year with you guys"! That's paraphrased, but the word "maudlin" was used. There was also the implication that DC was dying onscreen--can't stroke victims live as long as anyone, if they make a recovery as DC has? Anyway, I hope the jerk gets loads of nasty emails--because it really seemed mean spirited, suggesting that people with disabilities just hide under a rock--even if they are famous producer/hosts--maybe especially then.

PinkDog - You are absolutely right. I'm sure he can't move well and turning like that probably made it exta awkward for both of them. And it did look like one side of his face is paralysed, so that would made a simple kiss that much more difficult. I can't believe I didn't think of that before!! Hurray for Mrs. Clark for continuing the tradition.
Haven't read the NYT thing about DC, and now I'm glad. How horrible to suggest that anyone with a disability or injury or disease should hide away and leave the world the the perfect, pretty people! I hope there's a big backlash against that writer.

Wasn't he a real dick in Farenheit 911? I seem to remember that.
