You guys....Who saw Dick Clark on his New Year's Eve show? It is so hard to see him looking and sounding so rough.
I remember watching American Bandstand in the 70's and 80's. He always seemed so cool and so into the music scene.

Watching him tonite struggle with his speech made me nearly cry. I wish the utmost best in his continuing recovery.

He did seem to get stronger as the night went on...maybe He was nervous at first . I thought he did well, and welcome back Dick Clark..We missed You.

He did really well, considering... The stroke must have taken a lot out of him, I guess. Still, I admire his guts for getting on live TV last night.

Yah, I seem to remember it being reported last year that he had a "mild" stroke. Looking at him and how long it took for him to get to where he is, I don't think so. I think it was much more severe than was let on. My dad died of a stroke, and they are devastating. The toll they take on one's body is more than you'd think. Yes, it's a brain incident/accident. It also paralyzed my dad's swallowing capabilities, forcing the hospital to feed him thru a tube. He went downhill rapidly from there - pneumonia, shingles, limb weakness/paralysis, internal bleeding. Strokes are highly destructive. Dick was always the perennial teenager - appearing every year looking 5 years younger than he had the year before. I too acknowledge him for the guts it took for him to get up there and appear on live TV, and then talk about his condition. Good for him.

Oh, I felt tears well up when I first saw him last night--sadness, something. But it turned into pride and admiration very, very quickly. His recovery from that stroke is phenomenal. I am impressed with that man and proud of him for getting back on tv.

I only saw the end - when the ball dropped. He didn't appear then - just a voiceover. I think it was pre-recorded. His countdown was off by a couple of seconds and then his comments with Seacrest just seemed so canned. Not knocking him for it, just saying. I didn't know if he had appeared on TV at all during the show or just his voice. Snarky question - was his hair jet black?

This is one person I will not snark on. He must have worked very hard to get where he is. And his speech is better that Kirk Douglas's.... so there's hope he'll improve even more. Not sure about his mobility - he didn't seem to move at all. Sigh. I admire him greatly for giving this a try, knowing that the world would be waiting to see him. I figured when we didn't see him all year (he's never been one to shy away from interviews), this wasn't going to be the "mild stroke" like they tried to spin it.
And no, his hair has not been "jet black" for several years.

Not jet black, but still darkish! From what I read, he was there,in the studio from 11:30 to 1 a.m. So that would seem to indicate that the lines were not pre-recorderd, although I would figure that the lines were written ahead of time for him to practice with. His countdown was a little bit off, but I think he was just talking as fast as he could and it was a pinch too slow! There was a little shot at midnight of him kissing his wife. So sweet!

It's a little sad to see him show some signs of age. He really seemed to be like an Energizer Bunny. Read this morning that he's passing the baton to Ryan Secrest or some such. True?
