I was wondering why announce the split if they are working it out as well. But it may be a way to avoid speculation when they are found out to be living in separate residences or seen out alone constantly. Also a way to avoid questions about 'Where is Chad?' at award shows.

I thought her response was fine considering Isaac Mizrahi rudely and inappropriately put her on the spot (something like "Now that you're single blah blah".) It was tacky and disrespectful to both Chad and Hilary considering how fresh the news is and the fact that both are public figures. I think she handled him with class (certainly more than I would have!)

I thought she looked gorgeous, much better than the Oscars last year, and I loved the dress. But I've had a soft spot for her since 90210, so I may be slightly biased .

And yeah, not liking Isaac's insensitive questioning. Especially because, if I recall correctly, he basically asked her if she was going to try and hook up with anyone later.

She's been single for 2 seconds for goodness sake. It's still fresh. Leave the poor girl alone.

When they made the announcement of their split, they said that they were separated and still hoping to work things out. So any interpretation that they were completey done wasn't based on what they'd said. I can understand announcing the split even if they're not giving up on the marriage. As others have said, it'd be tough for her to go through awards season having to answer the "Where's Chad" questions. And I think that speculation of what was going on would just add to the difficulty of trying to work things out.

It would be tough either way: either she doesn't make an announcement and dodges questions or lies that everything's hunky-dory, or she makes the announcement and hopes that interviewers treat her with kid gloves or avoid the topic entirely, which Mr. Mizrahi did not.
