Frankly, I think the problem is those is he/isn't he rumors. Robbie has had far too much success everywhere else in the world to try to butch it up or change himself to fit the America mold of a pop star. But if he wants to have some private parties with me...by all means, Mr. Williams, by all means...
Also, I think the fact of the matter is that they are very few -- if not zero - big male solo *pop* stars in the states anymore. The last one I can really think of is George Michael, then Ricky Martin, but the latter had the latin explosion thing going for him. My guess is very few people know about James Blunt being a British soldier (because, well, we're American and don't read Q magazine and Rolling Stone and MTV barely cover music anymore), they like him because he's a sensitive (cough, whiny, cough) singer-songwriter type sorta in the mold of Jack Johnson and John Mayer. If Robbie made that type of music, I think he'd be a bit more successful in the states, because that's what's been big for male solo artists the last few years.
Oh, man, there was the rumor that he was going to guest on Desperate Housewives...which would've been awesome and bizarre.
I want him so so very much and frankly think it's a little unfair that he's been in LA for some time but we've never encountered each other.

I love him too. One of my friends from high school and I got all kinds of crap for it, because no one else had even heard of him.
Between him and James Blunt, it is a crime he wasn't the one to catch on here.

James Blunt bores the shit out of me. I fall asleep just thinking about him.

Adding to the love. I was lucky enough to see him perform live. It was when he was trying to break in America and the venue was small and not even half full. However, the fans that were there were ready to bring the enthusiasm (a lot were Brits who flew over especially to see Robbie because they couldn't get tickets to his UK gigs). I can imagine how disappointing it would be to be a huge star in one country and barely able to fill a club in another, but there you go.
In any case, he put on one hell of a show. I imagine that anyone who wasn't a fan could be won over by seeing him live. I studied in the UK around the time that Sing When You're Winning came out and all of my American friends went crazy for Robbie. Kids and Rock DJ were such fun club songs. Aw, memories.
Robbie always seemed a little too knowing to really make it as a teen pop star in the US. We like our idols pure or making fun of other idols, not themselves!

Kylie, Robbie Williams and the rest of them are just too adult to be pop stars in the US, Adults here consider pop music for kids with an occasional guilty pleasure for the rest of us. IMHO that's why The Spice Girls are the only UK pop band to do well here since about 1987*.
*Coldplay etc. aren't considered "pop" just regular music.

I like him, but I hated his most recent album. I prefer the cocky British pop to his newer stuff.
Jessica Simpson's Angels cover makes me cry and not in a good way.

I love the cheeky bastard- even though barely anyone in the US does.
I saw him live several years ago when he performed a few songs at an MTV concert for the Tribeca Film Festival. He was fabulous, and the majority of the fans were there for him- you should have heard the screams when they announced his name. And this was at a concert featuring Sean Paul, Jewel, The Roots and Norah Jones. Norah was the last to play, and a ton of people cleared out after Robbie's set. Apparently, all the RW fans in the US flew in for that concert!
I like his older stuff better than his newer stuff- I've barely played Intensive Care.

Love his music and Rock DJ was such a cool cool song.I remember seeing the original version on MTV before they banned it and it was naaaaasty but yet so entertaining.I am one of those fortunate people that hasn't heard Jess S's version of Angels and don't plan to anytime soon.
Now, I haven't followed his private life too closely but I remember that he badmouthed one of the Spice Girls after he slept with her. Can't remember which but I think it was Geri and I always thought he was such a tool for doing that.

I love the Rock DJ video, too. Throwing your ass at blood-covered, roller-skating models? Genius.
