I freaking love him. He's an AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING live performer, makes the catchiest and coolest songs, and has all the charisma and wit in the world. I cannot for the life of me understand how he has not made it big in the United States.

I love him too. He's great. I didn't realize he hadn't made it in the states though. He's on much music all the time.

We like our pop stars pretty, bland and easily malleable?
I adore him as well. I really wanted to go to one of the Knebworth concerts a couple years back, but they sold out incredibly fast, and I'm poor. So I had to make do with a live Mark Owen concert, and the television broadcast from Knebworth, which was fantastic all the same. He really does put on a great *live* show, and even if his stage persona is fake, it really does connect with the audience. And Kids is one of the best car rock-out and sing-along songs out there.
That said, I really don't like Millennium. Cute video, tepid song.

Oh he is so so awesome. One time I was riding with an uberhipster-cooler-than-thou friend and brought a Williams cd for the ride. He complained the whole time, but was nice enough to let me play it. For some reason, I never got the cd back. Last I heard he was burning it for his little sister. Hmmm.......

I love him! For all the reasons already listed and for the fact that he tried to pass of Jane Seymour's castle as his own on Cribs!

Ooh and when he was dry-humping the bed describing the magic that goes on, then said that the magic was actually him just dryhumping the bed most of the time...... the love, the love. Ok, I must leave the thread before I double post.

Love him. The last two albums have been pretty disappointing, I think, but "Sing When You're Winning" is probably one of the best CD's I own. AND he's very sexy, even though he's looking a little rough lately...

Two reasons I can think of:
1. He was a decade too late. Had Take That made it during the 1980s a la Wham! with George Michael, he would've been a major star. Take That was a one-hit wonder in the States and he didn't even sing lead on "Back For Good." So when "Millenium" came out in '99, he was a blip on the radar.
2. He really didn't have a gimmick or a hook in this country for him to make it. For instance, James Blunt's hook was that he was a former British soldier; the Beatles were known for the moptop hairdos along with their music; the Stones had that "bad boy" image; Duran Duran and Culture Club had MTV breaking them into America; Tom Jones had the tight clothes and the soulful voice. I could go on and on.
Let's face it, Robbie Williams is his generation's Cliff Richard; famous in the U.K., a footnote in this country.

Maybe if he takes advatange of those Is He/Isn't He rumors and shows up at parties with Wentworth Miller or Jake Gyllenhaal, America will pay attention. A girl can dream.....

That hurts my heart. I love that song. But I love Kids too.
