Man, so much love lost after hearing that mp3. Listening to him rant like that, brought back memories of my step-father talking to me and my siblings like that. :/

I know that a lot has been said about Kim Bassinger being just as bad as him, but I can't imagine how unless she leashed the girl to the back of a car and sped down the freeway. The worst I've heard so far has been that she put a loving note on a post-it and attached it to a candy bar... and I don't see how that can be compared to this. Huh? Loving notes and candy bars are bad things? This I gotta hear. Oh, and yeah, he sounds like a dickweed, but as a parent, there have been many, many times I've verbally lashed out at my own kid so I'll stay off the judgment wagon 'til more details come forth. Actually, from everything I've ever heard, he IS a dickweed, but this would in no way excuse the other crazy parent if she did release this tape to help her own case. I mean nothing soothes the sting of a humiliating phone message smackdown from Dear Old Dad like sharing it with the world, right?

This is not verbally lashing out at your kid. This is verbal abuse. This is emotional abuse. Calling your child a pig in anger is never ever okay.

Huh? Loving notes and candy bars are bad things? This I gotta hear. I think the reason people thought it was bad was because she and Alec were going through their divorce at the time, and it just seemed like she was baiting Alec. I see nothing wrong with sending her kid a note and a candy bar, but during a divorce is not the best time to do so. At the time Alec was already alledging Kim was trying to turn Ireland against him by making her think he didn't love her enough, so her sending an "I love you" note (which he probably took as "...And your dad doesn't!") was not the smartest idea. Really though, they are both nasty and immature, and always have been, at least since their divorce proceedings started (how many years ago was that? At least one or two, I think). I feel really bad for Ireland.

Thanks for the clarification, Ivy. Man, Ma and Pa must really detest each other to sweat candy bars and post-its.

Well, I can't think of a reason why you'd ever talk that way to a child. Yes, we get frustrated as parents, but we are the adults. I don't care if this kid is a raging brat who sits with her arms crossed and refuses to answer his phone calls - he has no right to humiliate her that way.
I think he's hilariously funny (that episode of Friends he was in was the best), but I am kind of glad to see him outted like this. It's too easy for these guys to just keep coasting along on their fame - and blame someone else.

Neither can I. Calling her names and threatening her is emotional abuse and it is wrong.
