I do not read every post made every day on our board, neither do my colleagues on the forum staff. My intervention in a topic is not a reflection on where a dialogue has ended, but the direction its been taking.
As I have pointed out elsewhere on the forum, the role of our moderators is not to police the opinions of our members. That is a slippery slope towards censorship and that is not an option here. We can only moderate behavior on our board, not anyone's way of thinking.
I have sometimes (strongly) disagreed with how others here have viewed sensitive topics, but I would not publicly brand their thinking as racist/sexist/ageist/whateverist as this is against forum rules. We're each entitled to express our opinions and are encouraged to debate in the appropriate threads, but we are not entitled to label the opinions of others based solely on our own subjective lens. There would be no end to that.
While not everyone will agree with how we run things, this place has survived over 15 years for one simple reason: we uphold civility in all behavior here. We trust our members to be respectful of each other, even (and especially) when they disagree. I can't emphasize that enough.
I opened a specific thread to discuss all things LGBTQ and that is where this subject needs to now move. Thank you.
