I watched some of "Richie Rich" when it came on tv last week. There's something (really, only one thing) interesting about that movie. Years ago on SCTV, long before Macauley Culkin was ever a star, Martin Short did a skit about a 1950s child star with an annoying catch phrase and facial expression (similar to Mac's face slap and scream in "Home Alone"). The child star grows up but his show is so popular that it doesn't get canceled. Because he's now a full-grown man, the producers have to hire super tall actors to play his parents and build larger props so the star looks smaller.
They did the same thing in "Richie Rich". It was obvious in the movie that Mac had gone through a growth spurt. His costars were John Laroquette (6'4"), Edward Herrman (6'5"), and Christine Ebersole (5'10"). This is easily the tallest non-Wookie supporting cast in film history. Certain props and sets looked oversized. I wondered if Martin Short was a psychic.

Yesterday I was watching something on VH1 about the parents of child stars and they touched briefly on the fact that Kit Culkan's antics pretty much killed Macauley's career. Remember the Nutcracker thing? Kit Culkan's idea, I think, even though Macauley is not a ballet dancer.
Macauley Culkin is a good example a cute child becoming a not so cute adult. Actually, I thought he was weird looking as a kid but I could see people thinking he was a cute little blond haired moppet. Unfortunately, those same features look pretty weird as an adult.

WORD (am I using that in the correct context? When I really agree with someone's comment?)! I feel sorry for the guy, truly I do. One of those cringeworthy things, whenever I see him. Just go somewhere and slink off into normality, where all normal looking and less normal looking people live happy and healthy (or not) lives.......

I've seen MC in real life and he can't be taller than 5'3''. That's how tall I am and there is no way he is taller. Like shockingly tiny, even by actor's standards. I could definitely see actors that size making him looking like a child even if he had grown to his full adult height.

Remember the Nutcracker thing? Kit Culkan's idea, I think, even though Macauley is not a ballet dancer. He had had ballet training, long before he was cast in Nutcracker. However, that didn't qualify him to dance the lead, for heaven's sake! And Kit was a monster, no doubt. I forget what movie it was, but he once stormed, "I can shut this whole movie down right now!" if he didn't get whatever it was he wanted. That kind of behavior guarantees that you'll never have to worry about script approval, or whatever, again.

I seem to think that was The Good Son (or The Bad Son, or something). Elijah Wood was cast as the evil little boy, and Mac as the good little boy. But Kit wanted it swapped so that Mac could broaden his range and stop being typecast as sweet. Unfortunately, Mackauley Culkin can't act his way out of a wet paper bag, so the performance was horrible.
Every time I see that movie playing on TV I think about Elijah. Getting pushed around like that as a 12 year old nobody couldn't have felt very good. But he is clearly light years ahead of Mac as far as talent goes, even at that age. I wonder what sort of feelings went through Mac's head when he realized LoTR was going to be a set of masterpieces and that Elijah will have acting jobs until the day he dies.

I just saw on television that his sister Dakota was killed in a car accident today. How sad.

I don't know anything about her ... mentally stable? All the reports say that she "walked in front of the car", and the driver was obviously devastated. I just wonder if it was an accident.
