Wow! Also had no idea she was sick! I know most know her from being his wife but I remember when she was playing the pretty blonde in '80s movies like Mischief. This is very sad.

This family has faced a lot of tragedy over the years. Ella has lost her brother, now her mom. I feel so bad for all of them.
I will admit that I now wonder about his future in Scientology. She seemed WAY more committed than he did. It would be great if he could get his kids out.

I was shocked to hear she passed. I didn’t even know she was sick. Their family has suffered so much loss. It’s very sad. I don’t know the specifics about Scientology and medicine but I hope she was able to get treatment. I also hope that the family can find a way out but a lot of time loss bonds people even more to their religious beliefs.

This is really sad. Despite all the Scieno stuff, I've always had a soft spot for John, as our hometowns in NJ are near each other and it was always kinda cool thinking of a "hometown boy" making it in Hollywood. My heart goes out to him and the two kids. No one should have to lose their Mom at such a young age.

In his statement, he thanked MD Anderson cancer center, so I think she did get some kind of treatment. When their son died, it eventually came out that he was diagnosed as having autism, so publicly they promoted Scientology, but privately they do get standard medical care.

Her daughter Ella has now lost her brother and mother before the age of 20. All the privilege of being the child of two movie stars, that is a rough hand to be dealt. And their youngest child is only nine.
I do hope Travolta either finds comfort in Scientology, or the freedom to leave it.

This was my first thought - that cult has such a terrible reputation it was "I wonder if she got the right treatment and care she needed." And yes, I saw Travolta acknowledge the MD Anderson Center, but Scienos are not known to access traditional medical care as a first line of defense. There's a lot of unknowns, don't know if she had the gene, but with regular mammograms and proactive treatment breast cancer is much more survivable than it was in the past. My point is that her being a Scieno means I am making judgments I wouldn't make with someone else, and 57 is much too young to pass away from anything, especially with a young child. I thought she was a riot in "Jerry Maguire" and so, so beautiful.

That's just so sad. She was way too young to die, my heart really breaks for those kids. And John. That man has had so much loss. I believe he's lost both parents, Diane Hyland, his son, and now his wife.

Diana Hyland played his Mom in The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (with Robert Reed as his Dad) and won an Emmy for it. She was also the mother of Eight is Enough, before she (and her character) died. Diana was 44 when she died.
I JUST watched Twins the day before her passing. She was a gorgeous woman. I loved as Tom Cruise's bitchy ex-girlfriend in Jerry Maguire too.
Rest in Peace.
