I have NEVER thought that Rock was as funny or insightful as he is supposed to be. I mean, his "political" jokes are so stale. He seems like an insecure jerk and I'm glad his wife finally wised up and dumped him. He only said very passive-aggressive if not cruel things about her and their relationship. And he couldn't keep it in his pants either. Um, actually turns out HE dumped HER Tom Cruise style just 3 weeks before their 10th anniversary. I wonder why, Chris? California divorce law for couples together over 10 years got you so down you called your attorney and decided to dump your marriage? Things that make you go hmm, huh?

ETA: I wonder if a pre-nup only holds true with what he had coming into the marriage. It seems to be, under California laws, she'll still be entitled to half of everything he made during their marriage. I seem to think he's made the bulk of his money in the last 5-years, or so.

I remember seeing his stuff years ago on MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour (yes, I'm old) and thinking how sexist it was. I realize he's much older and possibly more mature, but I'll never forget him making jokes about how date rape isn't really rape. He described date rape as a woman having her panties around her ankles and then telling the guy that she just likes him as a friend.

Are they getting divorced in California? Because they lived in New York primarily (she worked for the UN and then for her own NYC-based charity). It would be odd if they didn't file their divorce there. And we have no idea wy they're divorcing. He and his wife have stayed very much below the gossip page radar. For all we know, it might have been her bad acts that caused the breakdown. I think it's easier to see this being the fault of the potty-mouthed comic but it might not be accurate.
I'm sort of amazed how much vitriol posted for this guy. His jokes are jokes. He's never made bones about being shocking. So he never heard a hetero woman rap? How is that different from jokes made about straight men in musical theater? Latifah, Lyte, Missy, and Da Brat are four of the top selling women rappers ever and they're all (reportedly) lesbians. I'd say Rock was making a funny observation, not a slur or criticism of anyone.

I'm a big fan of his, but his act has gotten a bit stale for me lately. Something's lacking. I think he seemed to lose something after Lola was born. He made Never Scared after that, and I was somewhat disappointed in that one. That's the first time I really heard him making comments about being married that made me stop and think "this is just a little too personal"---some sex comments. I just wondered what she thought about him saying those things. It seemed too bitter to be funny.
He's always seemed like he loves being a father to those girls though. I remember aftet Lola was born, him and Malaak were on Oprah, and they were talking about how he's changed since she was born. Malaak had all these great things to say about him, about how much more emotional he is now, how he lights up when he walks in the door and sees Lola, yadayadayada. He never said anything complimentary about her though, that I can remember, and it just made me wonder. I just had to wonder if he was more focused on the kid than he was his actual marriage, as happens to a lot of people.
I definitely think less of him now that I know he was fucking around and that he pulled this so close to their 10-year anniversary. Dang, and they seemed like such a cute little family in pictures together.
I gotta say, Bring the Pain is one of my favorite stand up DVDs of all time. I think I have to go watch that now. There are so many quoteable Chris Rock jokes. One of my favorites, which I think is from B&B, is the "you know that bitch crazy" joke. Me and Mr. JDTB use it all the time when the other person is talking and wants some feedback

I love Chris Rock. I think he is so funny. There's one album that is so funny I cry from laughing so much. The one about tussin. I saw him about 3 or 4 years ago and he was funny, but not the laugh till you cry type.
Too bad he's a jerk.

I just read in the NY Daily News that he and Malaak aren't divorcing. Apparently they are both seeing an attorney "about something". But they aren't divorcing. I thought it was funny how he said his life's mission was to prevent his daughters from being pole dancers. Then Jon Stewart remarked that with a name like Lola...Chris was all, "yeah i know!". It was much funnier when they said it.
