Some Christmas tinsel go caught on her dress. The color is horrifying and the dress is stiff.

That's a really plain dress. Something with a bit more decoration to it would be better. A different neckline, in a patterned material - anything to liven it up.
Does it seem to anyone else that she's not so much smiling in the close up as baring her teeth.

I think I have a picture of my mom in the same dress when she was pregnant with my little brother, who was born in 1964.
